Albany, NY Driving Tips
Go slow! There are many people walking about in the city and it's easy to miss someone hidden behind a bus or around a corner. Also, do not be intimidated to parking. There is always free street parking after 6:00PM, and it isn't difficult to find a space within reasonable walking distance to your destination.
Albany, NY Buying Tips
When buying a car, proceed with caution as you would in any other city. There are many dealerships to find exactly what you are looking for, but that doesn't ensure the car is in a better condition than that off of craigslist. There are enough cars for sale in the area that you can compare and contrast, and always have a mechanic look and listen before you buy.
Favorite driving memory
My favorite memory of driving in Albany, NY is the very first time I drove to the Empire State Plaza. Getting off of highway 787, you exit onto a long ramp that is more like a bridge towering over all of the other exit ramps for the city. Up high, you can see the Hudson River to your right with beautiful scenic views. To you left, you can see the entire skyline of the city including the state buildings, SUNY building, the NYS Museum, and the Egg. It is a beautiful sight representing what the city stands for, and the architecture is astounding. I will never forget seeing that for the first time as it took my breath away.
Favorite road
Pearl St. I love driving on Pearl Street because there are a lot of good views on the way to it's many destinations. There are incredible restaurants and bars on Pearl St that offer a variety of food and views. There is also entertainment at the Times Union Center, a huge venue for artists, and it is always fun to see what is going on that night, or on an upcoming night. It's nice to see the bustle of the city centered around Pearl Street.

Albany, NY Driving Tips
My advice for drivers in this city is to follow the speed limits. They are there for a reason, protecting you and others from sharp turns, school zones, pedestrian crossings, etc. Don't be in a rush to get somewhere, you could regret it.
Albany, NY Buying Tips
When buying a car in this city, shop around. Go to multiple dealerships as there are plenty to visit, and make sure you go prepared with list of questions. I also recommend taking it on a test drive to someone who knows something about that type of car so that you can verify what the salesman is telling you is true. Don't be afraid to walk away if you don't feel you are being treated well.
Favorite driving memory
My favorite memory of driving in Albany is actually the drive in and out of the city. Right outside of Albany is a lot of country land where I live, so each day I get to experience the beauty of the mountains, the trees changing colors, and the view from the highest peek of Albany county, and then almost immediately get to appreciate the skyline of the city, which is unique to Albany and really represents home for me.
Favorite road
Thatcher Park Rd. Thatcher Park Rd is my favorite road to drive on because you get to experience both the country and city all at once. At the top of the road, you are lead to an outlook on the cliff of the mountain. The scenery of the country is stunning, and when you look out, you can see the entire city skyline and the surrounding suburbs. It is a great place to soak the beauty of the area and clear your mind while driving where you need to go and listening to some music.
