The perfect SUV for around town and travel
I purchased my Highlander used four years ago, and it had 75k miles on it. Now, I am about to roll over to 200k miles. Not only is this a daily commuter for me, but we have taken several family trips in it. When I was searching for a vehicle for my family, leg room was a very important consideration. I am 5'10" with very long legs, and I cannot stand it when people's knees and feet hit me in the back. So, I was sold on the Highlander when I could put the driver's seat at my perfect driving setting, and then sat in the back seat and my knees did not push into the back of the seat. The third row does not have enough room for anyone above 5' tall, but we have hardly ever used it. But having the third row there has saved us in a pinch when we needed to fit more people in the vehicle. In the four years that I have owned this vehicle, I have only had to have one O2 sensor replaced, two serpentine belts, and I had the timing belt replaced at the factory recommended millage. Currently, it needs a new catalytic converter, but that is to be expected at 200k miles. There is a weird glitch with Toyotas where the A/C light will blink, and you have to remove the temperature knob to tighten a nut down in order for the A/C to work properly. The seatbelts are not long enough for heavier people. Plus, the front passenger seatbelt will go into a lock mode if it is extended all the way; which requires the passenger to unclick their seatbelt to let it retract all the way before they can have some slack in the seatbelt. I understand this is a safety feature for car seats, but it seem unnecessary for the front passenger in a three-row vehicle. The glove compartment and center console have plenty of room to put things, plus there is a little bonus catchall next to the driver's side window for putting change. Not only does the third row fold flat, but the second row does too to allow for carrying big, bulky items. The tires on this vehicle are not excessively large, so replacement tires do not cost an arm and a leg. While the actual headlight bulbs are easy enough to replace, the indicator lights require you to either dismantle parts of the car, or find someone with super tiny hands to get in there to replace the bulb. My specific model comes with a power port under the radio, and another under the center console (but there is not one in the back hatch). This comes in handy when we need to have the DVD player running in the second row.

This is a very durable car.
My Highlander was passed down to me from my mother. She owned the car since 2005 and recently sold it to me this year. Even though she was the one that owned it, I was a frequent passenger in it before I bought it. It is one of the most durable cars that we have ever owned. The spacious inside provides a comfortable fit for our family and has held up with wear and tear. The car now has over 190,000 miles on it and has taken us everywhere we have ever wanted to go without any let downs. The smooth ride that it provides makes for a good vacation car. There has not been a need for any electronic, motor, or transmission repairs either which is a big plus. The sunroof on the Highlander is also one of my favorite things about this car. You can have the radio blasting with the sunroof open, and it makes you forget all of your worries. Basically, all that this car needs to not let you down are routine oil changes and full tank of gasoline. To top it all off, the car has a very sporty look.
