2003 BMW 3 Series - Maintenance is too expensive.
This is a fun car to drive, as it handles well and is quite comfortable. The car feels tight to the ground and drives well. Acceleration is a bit weak when driving in regular automatic mode but improves significantly in sport mode. Despite the power window buttons being located in an odd place, the interior of the car is sleek and luxurious.
Story
The most memorable story I have with this car is buying it. I flew half way across the country to pick it up, then took a road trip driving it home.
Pros
There are several positives I like about this car. It handles great around curves and feel very stable. The car looks good and feels amazing to drive. BMW often thinks of the little things, as it had a built-in flashlight in the glove box, a sophisticated computer that gives statistics about the car/trip, and many other creature comforts built in.
Cons
The most negative thing about this car are its maintenance costs and lack of reliability. In the short time I had this vehicle, the cooling system, the A/C compressor, and the power steering motor all needed to be replaced. Another negative is the stiff ride. Although a tight suspension is good for tight handling, it also made for a bumpy ride. It also has very little legroom available for the back seat.
2011 BMW 3 Series - The ultimate driving machine.
Fifth-generation 3-series is an all-round package. Plenty of power, AWD, sedan, loads of features and stylish to turn heads. DIY is fairly easy, and most indy shops can take care of you. As with most performance inspired vehicles, maintenance is a must and can add up quickly if you don't keep up on it. Arguably one the best, all-around sports car on the market.
Story
Delivering pizza in a BMW, people seem shocked when you pull up with a car full of pies in a new 3-series.
Pros
Classic BMW appearance, strong acceleration, and good fuel economy. Responsive steering, efficient and strong inline six-cylinder engine, top-shelf ergonomics, strong safety ratings, comfortable front seats, and world-class fantastic BMW handling. Comes in four body styles. Elegant, hardtop convertible design and available diesel engine.
Cons
No standard advanced safety features. Somewhat pricey -- even for base line. Somewhat lacking in infotainment technology and dated, bland interior compared to others in class. Very cramped back seat, especially for three adults in the back. Compromised rear headroom and options can inflate price quickly.
