An E30 BMW is a great car to own -- if you like tinkering and you have a back up car. Fun to drive and well built, it is still an old car nonetheless and needs constant maintenance. When it's working right, it's an absolute blast to drive. When it's not, be prepared with mechanical skill or deep pockets.
Story
Drove from Ohio to California and back. Performed beautifully, except for a failing rear main seal which leaked oil all over the clutch and ruined it.
Pros
Handling - sporty and precise. Performance - engine is very smooth and torquey with a wide power band. Exhaust note - it's a BMW inline 6. It sounds good. Bulletproof drivetrain - the engine and transmission last forever if you take care of them. Roomy - comfortably seats 4 adults with their luggage. Easy to fix - '80s car. Not too complicated. Service manuals available for free online.
Cons
Fuel economy. Low to mid 20s MPG for such a small car is abysmal. Maintenance. Unless you know how to repair your own car, be prepared for a lot of mechanic bills. A car this old can be good if you know how to maintain it, but if you neglect anything, it will quickly turn into an expensive headache. Electrical - the Germans in the '80s were not known for their electrical engineering prowess. Expect things like power windows and dash gauges to fail. Leaks. Everything leaks. Be prepared to stay on top of fluid levels. Rust. These cars rust badly. Be prepared to keep it out of salt or learn h... (more)

There are a few quirky things about the car, but overall I can say is the best car I have ever owned. Previously, I owned the earlier model of this car (330xi '03), and I loved that car. And although I did love that car, this new car builds on every positive aspect and fixes many of the negative aspects. Overall a fantastic ride.
Story
I have a lot of roundabouts close to where I work, and I love taking corners with speed. This car allows the roundabouts to be taken at speeds other cars couldn't even think of trying, and it feels so good when passing another car
Pros
The car accelerates at the slightest touch, and seems to respond to the driver's thoughts rather than touch. It handles like a dream, taking corners smoothly. The interior and exterior both look sleek and smooth, while staying comfortable.
Cons
The auto-sense wiper blade is behind the steering wheel, and when activated cannot be seen because it is blocked by the steering wheel. The rims are also gorgeous, but they seem to hang on to brake dust instead of letting it go.

The greatest thing about this dealership is that we ended up getting a car that has been, for the most part, extremely reliable and a good addition to our family. The dealership was clean and the salespeople were easy to work with. When we purchased the car, it was actually during a blizzard and we drove from the Columbus area to take a look at it and ultimately purchase the BMW. The dealership did a good job of keeping their lot cleared of snow and had removed the snow from the vehicle we had come to look at before we arrived. Unfortunately, there were several (at the time, small) spots of rust that were not visible in the pictures online and we were told over the phone that it was completely rust-free. We still felt comfortable purchasing the car but the oxidation has gotten worse an... (more)

The dealership was fantastic. They had a great finance department that got me a better rate than what I had been pre approved for through my local credit union. They were not pushy at all and answered all of my questions fairly. They spent as much time with me as possible and let me test drive the car by myself (something that is becoming rarer and rarer). Overall it was a completely pleasant experience. Their service prices are a little high but its a relief knowing properly trained people are working on what is my fairly expensive vehicle.
