At the turn of the century, the regular cab, short-bed Chevy S-10 was a close to a muscle car as Chevrolet made. The Camaro was on hiatus, and the Corvette was at the long end of a run. With the 2WD drive pick-up equipped with a V6 and manual transmission, there was a great deal of fun to be had for very little money. The 2WD regular cab is light and powerful. The reliability was also remarkable with many of these little trucks going 200,000 miles. While it isn't large, it does do very well under load. The interior is modest, but comfortable. And with a rubber interior, it is easy to wash clean with a hose. The base model also avoids any power accessories. It has very little to go wrong. Just basic and fun transportation.
Story
Great vehicle for two, working, fishing or just cruising. Plenty of fun on the road or off.
Pros
The radio delete option. There is no need to pay for a lame factory stereo and cheap speakers. Very good manual transmission. Locking rear dif is about all you need to get out of most mud, well, if you drop the all-season radials, anyway. The sliding rear window largely bypasses the need for A/C, at least in the mid-to-northern latitudes.
Cons
While it goes, with small disc brakes in the front and smaller drum brakes in the rear, it doesn't really stop very well. Think 1970s stopping power. The paint is a bit thin, watch out when working, or leaning against the vehicle. Now, the rear end is geared at 3.08 with the V6 + manual combination, the tires will chirp, but they will not spin wildly. Just in case you were curious, or so inclined.

I bought my SD-10 from a friend who was in need of cash so he could purchase a house. I loved the size and the economy of the vehicle. I had a two-tone blue and was in love with it from the start. The ride was great, plenty of room for hauling stuff and the seats were comfortable. I drove the truck for over ten years without an issue. I gave it to my son, and he is still driving it.
Story
I moved my son to college in the vehicle. When we got to the campus to unload, a couple of attractive young ladies asked my son if the truck was his. He never hesitated; he said yes and a relationship was in the beginning stages. Funny thing, he married one of those ladies five years later.
Pros
Size, handling, loading capacity, comfort of the seats, and I loved the two-tone paint job. Cost was excellent, and it was very easy on gas.
Cons
I would say it was sort of hard on brakes.
