Great vehicle for a large, active family.
The 2004 Chevrolet Suburban Z71 has a lot of nice extras: leather seats throughout, heated driver and passenger seats, Captain's Chairs in the middle row, OnStar capability, side mirror indicators, and power folding side mirrors. The incredible spacious rear area ensures all of your families gear fits with you. The 4WD makes it a great choice for challenging road conditions. The third row seats three for an overall rider capacity of 7. The roof rack gives an additional gear storage option. Rear climate control gives your rear passengers the ability to set their own heating and cooling preferences and the abundance of air vents promises no fights over the air conditioner in the hot summer months. There are cubby spaces throughout the rear rows for the storage of small items so they are not loose around the interior. The exterior offers side steps so even small passengers can easily climb in. Being a large, heavy vehicle, the gas mileage is not good. In city, you can expect around 10-11 mpg. On the freeway, it averages about 16-17 mpg. Hauling anything extra with the tow hitch will lower those averages substantially. Mechanically, the engine has been quite reliable. We did have to replace the transfer case when the vehicle was about 13 years old, so nothing too out of the ordinary. Small mechanical issues have come up over the years: water pump replacement, and window regulator replacement on 3 of 4 windows so far. Overall, the vehicle has been an asset to our family.

Pretty doggone awesome!
This is one elegant and beautiful car inside and out. I was quite impressed by it's outside beauty and how huge the trunk is despite how the car isn't a gigantic boat. The interior is very pleasing to the eye and I love the seats: very comfortable. The backlight on the panel is a soft blue, very easy on the eyes. Especially versus having had a red back light on the panel. I'm loving the blue lights. One nice little visual treat is the stylish analog clock. Most cars nowadays have the ever boring digital clocks. Not this car. I've not had any issues when I'm changing lanes or backing out of a parking space. This car was bought used and in one month we have noticed a metallic squeal when we are backing out and turning the wheel. So far we haven't had this car in for any repairs. From my experience the gas mileage is much better than the Pontiac Grand Prix we had prior to this car. I really do enjoy driving this car. The brakes are totally on spot. You touch the brakes, you're stopping! Maneuvering the car from lane to lane around vehicles on the highway seemed much smoother than in our previous car. We had to pass a car and realized we almost missed a turn and this car handled that fast tight turn like a champ. The air conditioning gets very cold very fast and the radio and speakers make listening to my music a great pleasure so much so that it's difficult to peel myself out of the car when the trip is over.
