I like my Dodge Avenger because it is great on gas. I have found that I can get approximately 25-30mpg on the car, which is great because I do a lot of traveling. What I don't like about the car is that I have had to do a lot of maintenance on the vehicle. It seems I am changing the brakes and rotors every 4-6 months. I have also had to replace the engine and I am beginning to have transmission trouble.
Story
We drive around Presque Isle in Erie, Pa a lot. This car is roomy for the half hour drive and gets good gas mileage so it doesn't seem like a waste.
Pros
The gas mileage is great. I do a lot of traveling and I have found I can get 25+ MPG on the car. The trunk is very spacious, which is a nice feature for someone with 2 children.
Cons
For starters, the tire size is annoying. The tires are not average, so they are harder to find and more expensive. Also, the battery is hard to get to. We have to remove the driver side tire to access it. The transmission slips a lot and we are constantly having to maintenance it. The refrigerator above the glove box stopped working shortly after the vehicle was purchased. Also, we have had to replace the engine because of severe oil leaking. Another thing, the silver plastic around the shifter is VERY distracting when the sun is shining through the windshield. It practically blinds you.

I purchased this 2008 model in 2011 with approximately 60k miles on it. At first the vehicle was great, no problems and got great gas mileage. Slowly I started to see that I was going to be putting more money into the car than I had hoped for. I change the brakes/rotors about every 3 months. I had to replace the engine because of a problem with the oil tank and the transmission has been slipping for a long time now.
Story
I love to take the car for a drive around Presque Isle. It's approximately 13 miles around, and it's nice to just see the beach, people walking and catch the sunset on a clear night.
Pros
The vehicle gets great gas mileage. My tank is 15 gallons, and a full tank lasts me over a week and I do quite a bit of driving. The trunk is a great size for hauling and storing stuff for trips.
Cons
The number one thing that is frustrating about the car is having to replace the brakes and rotors so often. I don't buy the cheap ones, I pay to get them professionally done and I don't ride the brakes when I drive. It never fails, though, they are getting changed way more often than should be. Also, the pin is beginning to go through the casing on the transmission which is common among Dodge cars apparently, so I will have to have the tranny replaced soon.

They only ask what you want to spend per month. They don't tell you the prices of the car. They want to know your budget and will "fit" a car to you. They will start by offering more than your budget for the max term for a car worth at least half of that! After about six hours of deliberation you can walk out with a payment higher than you wanted, for longer than you wanted and an empty gas tank. Oh, they may even call you back the next day and let you know they got you a better deal by a couple dollar per month. In actuality they raised the principal and kept running your credit to find lower interest so they could profit more.

This particular Dodge and Nissan are the same company, owned by the same person. One is across from the other, so when I bought a my 2009 Nissan it was a great experience. People were nice, my Nissan is still running great, and I love it. So I figured I would buy my second car from the same company and decided to go to the Dodge side to choose another vehicle.
