Overall, the Dodge Dakota is a simple pick-up truck. Its design looks nice, and the quad-cab is convenient. With the back seats, it provides a nice mix of work utility and family vehicle. Unfortunately, many components do not seem made to last a very long time. With only 70,000 miles, many important items have had to be replaced. Although it is very inexpensive now that it is an older truck, the cheap price is offset by the many replacement items you have to buy for it. The shortened bed makes loading and unloading items very easy, but there is not very much room overall. The upholstery has held up well over time, but the floor mats were easily worn through within a couple months and the floor can stain very easily. The fuel mileage is what you would expect for a pick-up truck ... (more)
Story
A couple friends and I went to the Indy 500. We spent the hours before and after the race hanging out and tailgating at the truck. It was a great day.
Pros
There are not many positive aspects to this truck. The interior is fairly nice. The back seats actually have a decent amount of leg room, making it comfortable for all passengers. The headlights are very bright, making driving at night better. The electric controls on the driver seat allow you to optimize your comfort through many different adjustments. The speakers in the truck work very well and produce a very high quality sound for whatever stereo you have in the truck. The steering wheel is comfortable to hold, and having all the cruise control buttons located on either side of t... (more)
Cons
This truck has many problems. With only seventy thousand miles, I have had to replace many items. One of the front tie rods broke for no reason, as did one of the sway bar connecting links. The cable system that holds the spare tire under the truck bed broke. I laid under the truck on the side of the interstate and had to cut the cable to be able to get the spare tire out. The disc player in the radio stopped working without reason, and I had to replace the stereo. The center console handle broke, and it was unable to be opened. The front passenger cup holder is directly under the f... (more)

The Dodge Dakota is a good truck for basic hauling or retrieving materials like lumber for home repairs. Mine has four doors for extra seating so I can carry extra passengers as may be required.
Story
I've already had people want to buy my truck even though used. A close friend of mine admires the truck and really likes Dodge products. I was surprised that he wanted my truck given that it is used and all.
Pros
My Dakota has four doors, very nice for extra passengers. It is a mid-size truck so works well in my urban neighborhood where we need to park on the street. Yet it has plenty of room to haul materials like lumber. It is comfortable inside with basic features. The motor is accessible for repairs - plenty of room for a shade tree mechanic to get around and do basic maintenance to save a buck.
Cons
The 2004 is a little old and has no USB or Bluetooth capabilities. It does not get great gas mileage, but I do not use for long trips, only short hauling. I did have to replace the water pump on it.

They have low mileage, great vehicles for reasonable prices - much less expensive than the other 'chains' in town, without stooping so low as the buy-here-pay-here places.
