The 2002 Dodge Dakota Sport pickup I purchased used was a nice looking vehicle when I purchased it but within a year the clear coating starting peeling and that spread all over the vehicle within a couple of years. It does ride nice and have decent power and have nice looks (except peeling clear coat). It is comfortable, rides nice, has good power. Disappointed that transmission went out, was not driven hard, nor a lot of mileage and transmission is expensive to replace.
Story
There are a couple of other people that have a pickup that is similar to mine in styling and color and they get us confused.
Pros
It has nice styling, powerful V6 Magnum engine and a comfortable and nice if not basic interior. The 6ft bed is great for hauling off stuff and picking up supplies to remodel house. Was dependable the first several years I had it.
Cons
Noticed the clear coating was peeling on the roof soon after purchase and spread to a fender, then tailgate, and door. The transmission went completely out with less than 130k miles on it. The transmission for the 6cyl 2wd version of this truck is hard to find used and is much more expensive than the 4wd version. Disappointed that the gas mileage is only 16mpg city/17mpg hwy. The insurance rate on it is more than I would like, more than a nice car.

2001 Dodge Dakota - Good, dependable vehicle but the gas mileage is horrible

This truck has lasted me 14 years with very little problems. It is a very dependable truck as long as you don't need to use it for a long daily commute. The gas mileage is downright horrible, and has been getting worse as the vehicle ages.
Story
Driving around Mt Juliet with the back of truck piled high with my friends, going to various locations.
Pros
This truck is very dependable. In the 14 years I have owned it I have had no major problems with engine, transmission, or starter. It still runs well in these fields to this day.
Cons
The gas mileage is horrible. When I started, the vehicle only got about 16 miles per gallon. That has steadily gotten worse over the years, down to about 11 miles per gallon I get now. The inside can be a little cramped as well. Don't expect anyone to be comfortable in the backseat though a person can fit back there in a pinch when it is absolutely necessary. The system that controls the air conditioner and heat was made on the cheap though, as it will go out on you, which requires removing the entire dashboard to fix.
