My vehicle was about 12 years old at the time of purchase, so it had already experienced significant wear-and-tear before I owned it. It had about 130,000 miles already, but overall it has driven very well over the last seven years or so. I have only had to have about 5-6 minor repairs of this lifespan, and the car has never broken down on me in the middle of use. It still is reliable to this day, and gets me where I need to go with minimal fuss.
