The CR-V is great and versatile vehicle for families. It has the space to fit two adults and three children as well as plenty of storage in the back for day trips. This model has a removable table that can be used for tailgating and other activities. Mine has a tow package that I have used several times to haul lawn equipment as well as my furniture when we moved and though you definitely knew you were towing something heavy, the CR-V held up and got the job done. It is a mechanically sound vehicle and has required primarily basic maintenance. It has almost 170,000 miles and the only large expenses have been replacing one window regulator/motor and a starter. The only real hang up was having to replace the differential fluid at a shorter interval than originally expected. It's AWD (or fulltime 4WD as they called it back then apparently) makes driving in rough weather easier and it handles somewhat rough terrain fairly well.

My wife and I decided our next car probably needed to be a crossover, so we looked at the Hyundai Santa Fe, the Toyota Rav4, and the car we ended up getting, a 2014 Honda CR-V. What made the CR-V stand apart was its feel. Our car is nothing fancy, we got the EX, so pretty basic features, but it gets amazing mileage for its size (we average close to 25 mpg, with mostly city driving), and safety features that allow us to feel comfortable putting our two kids plus their car seats in the back row.
