Overall the 2008 Jeep Liberty is a great vehicle for states prone to snowy conditions in the winter months. It is a relative bargain buy at only ~12,000 for 50k miles. It is a great vehicle for those looking to upgrade from a beater or looking for their first vehicle. I had recently had snow tires installed on my Jeep and I also take off traction control to allow for complete driver control in snowy/icy conditions. It handles the snow extremely well and I feel that I can bring my car in to and out of a drift at will (mostly when having some fun). It also has relatively great stopping abilities in snow/ice conditions with traction control and ABS activated. This vehicle is safe, reliable, and also attractive. It was unfortunate that Jeep stopped its production recently.

Great, sturdy vehicle.
I have owned my Jeep Liberty for about 15 years now. It's a great car for someone who regularly gets "out there." I use it every time I go camping or to a state or national park, and I never worry about getting stuck on dirt or gravel roads, even in downpours. It's also a great commuting vehicle; I drive it every day to work and feel safe. Repairs are generally simple and easy. At 125,000 miles, I have not had to pay for a major repair yet. I like the fact that the spare is a full-size tire as well; this has saved me more than once when I'm far away from any tire or automotive shop. The interior is leather trim, and the leather has held up for all of these years without any major cracks or defects. The leather cleans easily, even after driving on a road trip with two little kids in the back. The back seat folds down to accommodate large items, like furniture or a week's worth of camping supplies. There are only a couple of drawbacks to this vehicle that I've experienced. Like many Jeeps, the gas mileage is low, especially compared to 2019 standards. I generally get about 17 miles per gallon on the freeway and 15-16 miles per gallon in the city. In addition, although the car is well-maintained (and regularly maintained), the engine noise has steadily increased over the years. It is much louder than most of the cars in our parking garage, but not to the degree that it really warrants a lot of notice. That said, I have to turn the radio up a bit louder than I do in other cars due to the engine noise. Overall, though, I love my Jeep Liberty and plan on driving it as long as possible.
