Efficient luxury.
This is a great all-around vehicle. It has Mercedes-Benz legendary build quality, comfort and ride, with the efficiency of a diesel engine. It's smooth and relatively quiet on the highway, although you'll hear some diesel noise while driving around town. The engine provides ample torque that reminds you that this is a modern diesel engine. The technology package, although not the most modern is very competent: the navigation system routes well and is accurate, the Bluetooth hands-free calling works very well and the Harmon-Kardon Logic 7 system sounds excellent. The quality of the interior materials hold up well over the years and remain rattle free.

Good value for luxury.
The Mercedes-Benz E320 Bluetec delivers very good value for the price. It is fuel efficient for a vehicle in its class and size, while at the same time providing the level of comfort and luxury you'd expect. The interior is well put together and nicely appointed, even for a base model. The diesel engine is relatively refined, and although audible at slow speeds, fades away on the highway leaving a quiet ride. The suspension is tight and the car handles rather nimbly. The diesel engine provides high amounts of torque, albeit following some turbo lag. The most noticeable low points are the cold shift-qualities of the transmission, which can have a few harsh shifts when you first start driving in the morning, as well as the frequent catalyst and diesel particulate filter regenerations. The regenerations change the vehicle's ride and behavior temporarily. Overall, I've been very happy with the blend of fuel economy, long range, equipment and luxury of this car.
