My biggest complaint about my 2000 Outback is the head gasket issue. They ALL go bad. Subaru should have recalled many years worth of vehicles. This is a widely known defect. However, my Subaru has 220,000 + miles on it. It has made me a better mechanic in the process. I suspect I will get many more miles on it. It has taken a lot of abuse as a pizza delivery rig. I have also taken it off road quite a bit. It is a very capable off road vehicle with a nice amount of clearance. The all wheel drive is great on snow and ice. I live in Montana and am a ski bum. This thing has got me up to the hill when other vehicles couldn't. The oil is very easy to change. The skid plates are worthless though. The plastic clips break and they don't hold up. It gets relatively good gas mileage. 29 mpg highway miles. Not bad for an all wheel drive vehicle. Overall, my Outback has been a pretty good car. That is, if you ignore the $2000 I had to pay for the head gasket job. Regular maintenance has kept it on the road for a long time. I'm hoping to get 300,000 miles out of it.

I love my Subaru Outback. It drives smooth and gets great gas mileage. It is comfortable to ride in and has plenty of storage. It is sleek and beautiful. Even though I have gotten both used and new vehicles and this was a used vehicle, this is one of my favorite cars that I have ever had in the past 30 years.
