I've had this car for about a year (just over a year) and I love it. The engine is very responsive, especially in the sport mode. I almost always drive in the sport mode as it provides more control to the car, and greater gas mileage. I average about 24MPG on any day. The sound system is great, providing amazing clarity and bass (which I have an affinity for). The only thing I really dislike about the car is the software. There is no live MPG gauge like in a Prius, or other new cars, and there is no way to set Bluetooth as the default media option. Every time I get in the car I have to hit the voice button and say Bluetooth audio. Also, the screen doesn't show song information when playing via Bluetooth audio. The back-up camera is standard and is great in the summer, but is completely... (more)
Pros
The sound system is great, even stock. Back up camera is very helpful. All wheel drive is great for driving in the winter! Decent mileage.
Cons
No way to quickly enter Bluetooth audio or set it as default media. No real-time MPG meter.

Our Escape has proved to be highly functional for my family of four, in many different conditions. We have packed it to the gills. We have driven it on wilderness roads and beaches. We have taken it through some serious snow, as we live in Maine. Through all of this, it has performed admirably and has only needed routine maintenance as it now approaches 40,000 miles. The one downside is that it does ride a bit on the loud and rough side when traveling on the highway.
Story
We took the Escape to go camping on the coast, and we packed every square inch of this baby! (Note: Our first time camping with two small kids. Packing will be more strategic next time.) The road to our site was always quite interesting, as it had some major ditches and holes we had to navigate. All turned out well, though! The Escape took it like a champ... And our kids loved camping!
Pros
On the plus side, there are a number of items that have us pleased. First, the gas mileage has been solid and easily as advertised, holding steady at 26 mpg. Second, it has easily taken on all driving condition challenges we've presented it. Third, even though it's on the smaller side of the SUV market, it has provided ample space for my family. Fourth, the Bluetooth system Sync works fairly well, though it can be a bit complicated at times to get music playing via the iPhone. Other than that, the Bluetooth performs quite well.
Cons
On the negative side, the biggest item that sticks out is the sound. A number of other SUVs, including bigger ones like the Honda Pilot, ride significantly quieter than our Escape. The only other negative item is that sometimes the Sync system gets a bit quirky with music playback from the USB port.
