The car has great interior space. I appreciated the large trunk area; it was large enough to fit crates used in my classroom. The size of the car is a great mid-size SUV; it is not too long to parallel park with ease, and it is not cramped. The interior did not feel small, like a car, but felt spacious. There was plenty of room for car seats, and the latches in the seats were easily accessible. Sometimes the hooks are so buried in the seat it makes hooking in a car seat very difficult, but the Escape was very child friendly in built. Unfortunately, I purchased this car used, and it had issues often. The engine leaked oil, and the gaskets had to be sealed. The battery died multiple times before the expiration of the battery. Every time I filled up the pump, it would click off erroneousl... (more)

We took the Escape for a day trip to St. Augustine. We were able to fit as a family of five with plenty of room in the trunk for everyone's day bags, change of clothes, and snacks for the road. We had three kids in the backseat, including a child in a large booster seat. All three fit in the back row comfortably for the two-hour drive up to St. Augustine and back home. We were able to park in ... (more)
Pros
I appreciated the spacious interior most of all. I was looking for a decent mid-sized SUV that felt spacious, not cramped, and had a good amount of trunk space. As a teacher and a mom, I am constantly carrying bins, bags, boxes, and crates. The Escape provided plenty of space for my day-to-day needs. I was able to vacation well, fitting suitcases and people adequately enough to travel. I also used the racks on top of the car often for larger items. I did not ever have to compromise leg room for car seats or worry about a car seat not fitting in the back. I was able to use a car seat rear f... (more)
Cons
I did not appreciate the amount of mechanical issues I had while owning this car. I felt as though things "fell apart" often, and I had to take it into the mechanics much more frequently than friends and relatives with cars of a similar "wear and tear" bracket. I also felt as though the base model did not provide many of the upgrades that were common amongst other car brands, such as large display, satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, USB ports, power seats, and automatic headlights.

2008 Ford Escape - 2008 Ford Escape: not quite flawless.

Overall, I love my Ford Escape, though there were a few things that Ford could have done differently to make this car better. First, the power steering is not hydraulic, it's electronic. Shortly after purchasing the car (used), the power steering went out. Since it was electronic it was not a quick or inexpensive fix. My vehicle was in the shop over two weeks to replace a part totaling over $400.00 before labor. 2008 is apparently the first year the power steering was like this in the Ford Escape. My Ford Escape indicates important information about my vehicle which is a very helpful feature. Recently, it said low tire pressure. Now this is a very, very minor issue, but it would be nice if it told me which tire was low. Obviously it has the sensors to detect low tire pressure, but it w... (more)

Driving has always been relaxing to me, and I had a route I used to drive through the mountains in Colorado consistently in my Ford Escape. It handled very well through the winding mountain roads. Driving through that area listening to music when I was by myself was so relaxing. My Ford Escape has also been part of many trips to zoos, road trips, moving from Colorado to Kansas, and trips to th... (more)
Pros
The Ford Escape has been reliable (besides the one time the power steering went out). It handles and performs very well. It is always in 4WD and handles pretty well in the snow as well. My Ford Escape has features that I really enjoy having such as a sunroof, cruise control, electronic mirrors, electronic indicators for MPH, fuel level, service reminders, and issues with the vehicle. The cargo area is pretty large.
Cons
Electronic power steering is expensive to fix! That's really my only real complaint about the 2008 Ford Escape.
