2016 Ford Explorer - Great quality
The Ford Explorer drives smoothly and has good gas mileage. I have driven over 70,000 and have never had an issue. The seats are very comfortable. The seats can be cooled or heated. This car is fuel efficient for an SUV.
Story
This was great for vacation and traveling with my family. We've driven this car to all of our vacations and can fit everything inside the trunk.
Pros
Fuel efficient, comfortable seating, smooth drive.
Cons
No blind spot light.
2004 Ford Explorer - Great, until the reverse gear started to slip.
Its really very spacious and comfortable without being a monster on the road. That's mainly what drove me to it in the first place. It has plenty of little pockets and storage spots plus a third row of seats that fold down flat. It does about as well as expected on gas as a vehicle in its size category and it still has a lot of get up and go. The first few years I had it were great, no problems whatsoever. Then the transmission went all to hell. I tried to back up my driveway that's on an incline and it refused to do it. I chalked it up to wet pavement and maybe a slightly bald tire, But no, slowly after that the reverse didn't want to work on flat areas either. First step is to check the transmission fluid right? Wrong! Not on this model. You have to drain and refill, there is no ... (more)
Pros
Has great horsepower and acceleration for an suv.
Heat and AC will roast or freeze you at your leisure
Folding third row seating
back seat thermostat
lots of storage space
Cons
Good luck servicing it yourself, requires special ford tools for everything.
No dipstick for transmission fluid
taillights almost break when you change the bulbs due to thin plastic
Parts are getting hard to find and slightly expensive, even light bulbs.
Transmission issues seem to pop up quite a bit.
Electronic door locks/keypad never worked right, took it to the dealership multiple times and they never managed to get it fully functional.
