I feel the Explorer stands out from others in its category, as it rides like an armored tank. I feel incredibly safe in it. The Explorer has the option of a third row in it. As a Mom, this allows me to haul around friends and family to fields trips. It can also convert to cargo space, so I am allowed to put my dog in the car easily. This was an important feature when I started looking at a new family car that was not a van. The ride is very smooth. I live in new England where the roads are bumpy in the winter due to snow and covered in pot holes in the spring. The Explorer has the four-wheel drive with the mud/ruts, drive/snow terrain drive and rain drive. I use this a lot, and it has gotten me out of some dicey situations. The heating system on the Explorer is quick to work. In New En... (more)
Story
We piled in my sister, myself, my nephews, my daughter, and my parents into the Explorer went to our local beach. We picked a bunch of shells and were rained out. We had to jump quickly into the car and head home, wet!
Pros
I love how safe I feel in the Explorer. As I wrote, it rides like a Sherman tank. I was in an accident with my daughter, and I really needed something that I felt safe in afterwards. This car has done it. The ride itself is smooth. My father, who is an old-school lover of the Lincoln Continental, remarked how impressed he was with the smoothness of the ride. This is saying a lot.
Cons
When I first got the car, the electrical kept going in and out. The door would alert me that it was open when it was shut. It was incredibly annoying and need fixed- twice so far.

I purchased the car three months ago from a local dealer. I was unsure what vehicle I wanted to purchase but test drove the Ford Escape and knew it was perfect for my needs! The experience so far has been hugely positive. The vehicle performs well under pressure, and I just got back from an out of state trip for two days, 2,000 miles and cannot recommend this vehicle enough in terms of performance and comfort.
Story
Traveling to Vermont this weekend, we drove 600 miles in one day, radio blasting and singing along!
Pros
Good trunk space, nice amount of leg room for rear passengers. Powerful engine and quiet ride. The sound system is awesome! The dash panel is easy to read and positioned just right. Heated seats are wonderful! I also love the ability to change radio stations from the steering wheel. My passengers rave about the rear leg room, and I am able to fit two infant car seats easily with plenty of space. The trunk can handle groceries and baby equipment with room to spare!
Cons
The trim is a bit bland to be honest, not particularly luxurious looking. I have also had an issue with the driver door catching and feeling lightweight. It is just the driver door, and the dealer has been responsive to looking into this for me. I wish the vehicle had electronic mirrors as standard.
