I bought this truck because it had one original owner that never drove it, and being over 30 years old, it only had 63,000 original miles and was garaged for most of its life and never driven on winter roads. It has almost 90% of its original parts and starts right up. It doesn't have the luxuries of today, but it never lets you down on performance. I have hauled many things in this truck and driven it on road trips, and it hasn't failed me once. I love the nostalgia surrounding this truck, and I get a lot of looks and questions where ever I go. It's got a touchy carburetor and quite a personality, so if you don't know the truck, it will stall on you. I think that just adds to the charm. Every time I get in it, it feels like I've gone back in time. I only paid $2,000 for it, an... (more)
Story
Everywhere I go in this truck, old timers ask me questions about it. It brings back a lot of memories for people. They can't get over that its over 30 years old and still only has under 70K miles (I only drive it in the summer and store it in the winter).
Pros
Great nostalgia, easy to fix, and parts readily available since it was a popular make/model. Head turner and conversation starter. Hauls big loads with little effort. Durability and reliability.
Cons
It's an antique so no frills or thrills. The air conditioning is rolling down the window. No power locks, no electric windows, no navigation, and nothing to amuse you but the radio and the scenery.

My 1997 F-150 was purchased used for $3,000. I was told it was made from several different trucks to be used in a landscaping business pulling trailers. What I wasn't told was that it was made from two F-150s, one Chevy 2500, and one Chevy 3500. This has led to serious fun doing work to the vehicle, as my first task was to identify and write down a master cheat sheet that recorded everything from the type of oil filter used by the 1995 Chevy 5.7 Liter crate V-8 motor, to the set up notes for the Rochester Quadra jet carb atop it, to the fluid used in my manual transmission, to so many more interesting things.
Story
Power brakes sure are a fun addition to modern vehicles. It is deeply missed on mine when it rains and just generally whenever the Earth is orbiting the sun.
Pros
This 1/4 ton truck can pull down a barn in 4x4 Low, it has a decent amount of bed space for trips to the local cedar mill, is comfortable on the inside, and only requires a mild leap into the air to mount as a side effect of having a one ton suspension mounted to the chassis.
Cons
So much wasn't communicated to me by the seller, this vehicle is technically in violation of federal stratospheric ozone protection provisions, thanks to the ripping out of all the vehicle's originally installed electronics . Tuning the carb has been an adventure in learning unusual tasks - and setting the timing without any timing marks means that until I make my own timing mark plate and install it, I'm reduced to manually finding TDC before even starting the adventure.
