I hate this car. It's actively falling to pieces. The vent cable broke, which never happens on other cars, but happens constantly on this one. The lights go out behind the dash. The rail covers for the seats came off and I lost a piece of my windshield washer sprayer. It's so light it does horribly in the snow or ice, even with new tires. It's also extremely loud and vibrates terribly at almost any speed or gear.
Story
I got stuck on a patch of ice on an uphill road that took me two days, three shovels, a bag of salt and an ice scraper to get out.
Pros
It's very cheap. The engine is dependable. It gets good highway mileage (but not the best for its weight or class). It does have a good turning radius. The trunk is actually pretty big.
Cons
The vent cable broke, which never happens on other cars, but happens constantly on this one. The lights go out behind the dash. The rail covers for the seats came off and I lost a piece of my windshield washer sprayer. It's so light it does horribly in the snow or ice, even with new tires. My Ford Focus is a hardy car. Its not the most glamorous little thing, but it gets me where I need to go with minimal complaints. The focus is inexpensive compared to other cars, but the drawback to this is the higher cost of insurance. These cars tend to crumple like a tin can, so the chance of totaling out the car in an accident is higher, thus the insurance is higher. Its also very small. I got it before I had children, so at the time I didn't need a spacious interior. I wouldn't buy a Focus again, as I am in a different stage of my life now, but at the time (young, college-aged) it was perfect for me. I would very much recommend this car for young adults.
Story
Our first family road trip after my child was born was in this car. Going from the mid-Midwest to the north of the US was an adventure I'll never forget. Trying to cram everything we needed into that car is something I can laugh about now.
Pros
Inexpensive, As long as you take proper care of it, it will last a long time.
Cons
High insurance Small interior Not very good crash test ratings.
