2013 Ford Focus - Fun to drive
The car is fun to drive because it's a manual transmission that is electronically controlled. So it's still an automatic, just different, with two clutches instead of a torque converter. The ride isn't bad because it has a nice sportier suspension that handles pretty good, and the car's overall look is nice and sleek. The car has Ford's sync system with a four-inch screen that can connect to your phone via Bluetooth or other devices through usb and can be used to navigate with mobile apps and to listen to music using apps like Pandora or iHeart radio. The interior is nice and modern with several brushed aluminum finishes on the parts that add to the luxurious style in the cockpit. It can fit five people comfortable inside so there's room for friends or a small family. I have two car se... (more)
Story
The car has some good power for its size and can keep up with several other cars that have more horsepower than it. Probably because it is lighter but it still moves. I had a newer Silverado try to overtake me, and it couldn't because the Focus' torque was able to keep us in front and stay moving. Having more torque than a truck is a pretty cool thing to have in a fun little car.
Pros
Because it is a digitally controlled manual transmission, it is more fun to drive than a normal automatic car. The car has a big trunk so it can haul a lot of things. The sync system is great to use and can connect to your phone and mobile apps so you can listen to music and use the navigation apps like Waze and others.
Cons
The transmission has had some recalls due to the clutches failing because of some faulty internal parts. Once taken to the dealership and updated with some newer parts though the problem is corrected. Also, there has been a new recall for the purge valve in the gas tank that corrects the car stalling after putting gas in.
2006 Ford Focus - Roomier than I thought
I'm a six-foot three-inches big guy that was looking for a small car that got good gas mileage. I didn't have a big budget, so I looked at cars that were in the same prices range and the Focus. Honestly, the Ford Focus had the most head and leg room out of all of them. I also think it looked better then its competitors. It also had great gas mileage. My wife had a full-size SUV that only got 20 mpg, while I got almost 40 mpg. This was huge in Phoenix, since I had to commute about an hour to work. It was a pretty smooth ride also, and I didn't mind that it was a small engine. I think it seemed more powerful than it really was. Can't beat the price of the car either. It wasn't a bad car to drive in traffic and didn't take very long to cool down the car, especially helpful in th... (more)
Story
I used to carpool with another big guy (six foot four, 350 lbs. easy), and he drove a Nissan Versa. We didn't fit in that car very well. As soon I got this car, he always tried to get me to drive because it was way more comfortable than his car.
Pros
More head room and leg room than the competition. Great gas mileage. Good looking. Great price. Customer service at Ford dealer.
Cons
Back seat is small. With me driving, no one could fit in the back, especially a kid in a car seat. With me driving, it really was only a two-person car. I felt the resale value was low too.

2013 Ford Focus - Sands Kia Surprise
It was an easy experience. They haggled, but not terribly, and there was not a ton of pressure. Salesman was friendly and personable.
