2005 Ford Ranger - Good but small.

Good small truck. Good for driving in the snow. Has seating for four but is very cramped. Last model year with a lighter and ashtray. The bed is just big enough to be able to haul furniture, but not so big that it's difficult to load furniture into it. The gas mileage is decent for a truck, but newer vehicles have better. The salted roads of the winter have rusted the bottom significantly, causing the step runners on the sides the break and crumble leaving jagged metal edges exposed near the bottom of the doors. Very Mad Max, but not people friendly. The folding seats in the back of the cab are a joke. No adult would be comfortable in them. A child's car seat is not for those seats. That leaves a very small window of people who could realistically use those seats.
Story
I have helped pull multiple people out of a snowy ditch with this truck. Have used it for transporting a kayak.
Pros
Good on gas, able to haul large items without being cumbersome, lighter and ashtray, half-doors for backseat access, good in the snow
Cons
Small. very small. Not something you can pack up the family in for a road trip.

1996 Ford Ranger - Great little truck!

I bought my 1996 Ford Ranger with 135,000 miles on it. It currently has around 160,000. Because I am from Michigan, most of the issues are due to rust. Other than underbody rust, the truck runs great. It has a 2.3 L engine, which is really small, and it struggles to climb over mountain passes. But you just need to slow down, and ride with the semi trucks when the road turns upwards. I have a camper shell on the back and do a lot of camping and have actually even lived out of it on an extended road trip. It is a 2WD, manual transmission. So it is not great for difficult off-road driving, but with some good tires, you can drive rugged dirt, rocky roads just fine!
Story
Sleeping in the back and waking up and making oats and coffee then riding bikes around the Grand Canyon!
Pros
Great size. Not too big and not too gas guzzling. It will hold three people but, realistically, it will hold two comfortably. Easy to drive and you can park it anywhere a standard car can be parked.
Cons
Rust issues due to salted roads in Michigan. Slow on windy, open roads, such as across Kansas on the interstate when the speed limit is 80 mph. Not enough power to tow or haul heavy loads.
