Ford Taurus Owner Ratings & Reviews

1996 Ford Taurus - Multiuse
This car is great for all around use. It gets decent gas mileage for its size so it isn't the worst commuter car from its generation. It has a sturdy engine that makes getting around in a flash much easier. With the third row seat option and second row flat fold option, you are able to do just about anything in the vehicle. Drive to work, camp over night with second and third rows flat and an air mattress in the back, or get to your favorite place with the sturdy frame that handles any roads.
Story
I am able to enjoy a surround sound experience at the drive in because of the flat fold seats in the rear. It is always a good time!
Pros
The second row seating folding flat was a huge sale for me. I love being outdoors and hate setting up a tent in the rain, I am able to get a twin size mattress in the back with ease and get to where I need to be. Additionally with up to 7 passengers, it is great for group outings. There is still room for purses and such so we can get where we need to be in one vehicle.
Cons
The gas mileage and size are both a pain as other cars evolve. It does not fit in a compact spot at all and the gas at 22 mpg on the highway was great in 1996, but other wagons out perform it nowadays. Lastly, the rounded hatch opening can be a pain. You may have something that should fit comfortably in the back, except it can't get in past the restricted hatch opening... which is always forgotten until you go to place said item in the rear for transport.
2004 Ford Taurus - Solid and reliable.
It's a really solid car. It doesn't get above average gas mileage, but it makes up for it in comfort and reliability. In 90,000 miles the only thing I've had to do for it is replace the starter (and brakes/wheels, but that's a given over so many miles). For a car like this that's shocking. It also handles very nicely, the breaking is a tad slow due to how heavy the car is relative to its size but nothing bad at all.
The performance and overall quality of the car is very nice, it's held up extraordinarily well for something over fourteen years old now. I park it out in the weather (not in a garage) everyday and it still doesn't have any visible wear or tear on it, which, again, is really quite surprising. I haven't had to repaint it even once because it's kept its color so well. Defin... (more)
Story
I had to replace the starter because one night I went to turn the key and nothing happened. So I called the tow company and they sent someone who happened to be extremely knowledgeable on Fords. Apparently there's a trick where you can use a wrench to tap on the starter while someone else keeps the key turned on, and sometimes that'll get it to work. Well in this instance and it did work and I... (more)
Pros
Comfortable, tons of trunk space for a spare tire and whatever you need, and very highly reliable. Handles quite well. Quality is top tier.
Cons
Gas mileage could be better, and the overall weight of the car could be reduced.
