Which Midsize Sedan Is Right for You?

As you search for the right midsize cars, consider the ones mentioned here. Each of these vehicles offers plenty of interior space and a comfortable ride, making them ideal for any family outing. These are easier to maneuver than SUVs and provide just as much head and legroom. Plus, their safety features and amenities rival those of luxury vehicles from just a few years ago.

Even better, most have plenty of cargo space, which will ensure you can take everything you need, regardless of if you are loading it with groceries or planning a trip. Consider your needs and budget to find the right midsize sedan for you and your family, and then browse the options below. You'll find that both new and used cars from this class deliver the value you are searching for.

2021 Honda Accord

If you’re searching for a car that does almost everything well, the 2021 Honda Accord should be on your radar. Not only does it offer engaging driving dynamics but also provides an upscale, roomy, and luxurious interior. While it may not be on the list of luxury cars, the interior feels classy and upscale.

The Accord offers plenty of passenger space with two rows of supportive seats, along with a generous amount of space in the trunk. Other features include a user-friendly infotainment system and two engine options with all-wheel-drive (AWD).

The base MSRP for the Honda Accord is $24,970, with the top trim level, the Accord Touring, starting at $36,900.

2021 Mazda 6

The Mazda 6 is a stylish, sporty, and fun-to-drive midsize sedan ideal for anyone who wants to combine power and comfort in their new car. If you want to see all this sedan has to offer, opt for the Grand Touring or higher trims, which are designed with the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine that offers 250 horsepower. The interior provides plenty of features and amenities any driver will love, including Android Auto and Apple Carplay capabilities and 14 cubic feet of space in the trunk.

Standard engines offer 36 miles per gallon (mpg), which makes the Mazda 6 a fuel-efficient option. It can also go from zero to 60 in just 6.4 seconds and the base price for the 2021 Mazda 6 is $25,270.

You will find three powertrain options with the latest Camry model, including a standard four-cylinder engine, optional V6, and an electric-gasoline hybrid. The base model Toyota Camry XLE starts at just $29,870 and goes up from there.

2021 Volkswagen Passat

In 2020, Volkswagen gave the Passat a huge refresh, including an all-new interior, sheet metal design, and a few mechanical revisions. The brand also rethought the feature allocation, providing drivers with more standard features to help improve its value.

The good news is, even the most expensive trim level of the Passat for 2021 tops at just $31,385, making this one of the most affordable options on the list.

Even though quite a few updates were made last year that are seen in the 2021 model, you can still count on this family sedan to provide plenty of space for passengers and luggage. One of the biggest downsides to the Passat is that it doesn’t have some of the flashy exterior features that the other options on the list provided.

2021 Hyundai Sonata

The Sonata is a stylish mid-size luxury sedan available with all types of high-tech features that make it stand out from the crowd. Even though the Sonata isn’t the roomiest or sharpest handling vehicle in the class, it does everything else quite well. You will also find several trim levels to suit your needs.

For example, the N Line provides superior performance, and the hybrid offers up to 52 miles per gallon. Also, all models have been generously equipped with features and quality safety scores. The base trim level starts at just $23,600.

2021 Kia K5

While you may have fond memories of the Kia Optima, the legacy has continued with the Kia K5, so it’s not completely gone. The interior and exterior styling is impressive, and the manufacturer has included several upscale features.

Outfitted with a standard 160 horsepower, 1.6-liter engine, the power isn’t as much as the Hyundai options, but it is still respectable and will help you get things done. The starting price for the base trim of the K5 is $24,455 and offers an EPA combined fuel economy of 32 miles per gallon.

2021 Volkswagen Arteon

When it comes to looks, the Arteon outdoes almost every other mid-size sedan in its class. It offers a flashy fastback shape along with beautiful detailing. Even better, utility and function aren’t lost thanks to a crossover-like cargo space that’s due to the hatchback configuration. The interior is plenty spacious for passengers in the front and back.

The Arteon is considered a luxurious family vehicle providing plenty of premium features. The starting price for the 2021 base trim level is $36,995, which is slightly higher than the other sedans on the list, but the features and styling more than make up for it.

2021 Toyota Mirai

If you live in California, there’s no question that the 2021 Toyota Mirai is a mid-size sedan you should consider – especially since this is the only state where it will be sold. The Mirai is powered by hydrogen and slightly more expensive than other options, with pricing starting at $50,455, but for a hydrogen-powered vehicle, what do you expect?

Even better, refiling the Mirai takes half the time of what it takes to refill a Tesla, with the total range being approximately 402 miles.

The trunk space is just nine cubic feet, but chances are you aren’t purchasing the Mirai for the cargo area.

2021 Honda Clarity

Another hydrogen fuel-cell option, the plug-in hybrid Honda Clarity, is both eco-friendly and family-friendly. While the all-electric Clarity was eliminated from the line-up for 2021, this plug-in hybrid model offers 50 miles of battery power only.

The hydrogen-powered model is only available to California drivers and starts at $60,000. It provides up to 360 miles on a single fill, which isn’t as impressive as the Mirai’s range. While the mileage may not be there, the Clarity can reach zero to 60 in just 7.7 seconds.

According to most experts, the PHEV trim is one of the best options for the money, which starts at $34,355 and provides drivers with 110 miles per gallon.
