1997 Honda Accord - Happy Honda owner

I like the size of my Honda Accord. It holds four people comfortably, and can handle five in a pinch. There is a firmness to the ride that I like, but the ride is not rough or noisy. Acceleration is excellent -- really better than it needs to be. I especially like the way the car is able to enter the flow of traffic quickly from a standing start. The gas mileage isn't great by current standards, though it was pretty typical for its time (1997). I get about 20 mpg, but my driving consists mostly of short in-town trips that would tend to reduce efficiency. The car has been very reliable, particularly the core components -- engine, transmission, etc. My biggest repairs outside of normal wear and tear have involved items like a power window motor.
Story
My wife and I were in the car trying to enter a very crowded amusement park parking lot. Traffic was at a standstill. I knew that there was shuttle bus service available from a nearby shopping center, but we were stuck. I'm almost always a by-the-book type of person -- and driver -- so my wife was more than a bit surprised when I turned the wheel and drove across the grassy median to the outbo... (more)
Pros
I bought this car because of the strong reliability record of both the manufacturer and the specific model. I chose the version with a V6 engine because it was the only version available with anti-lock brakes at that time. Those are my favorite features. The extra acceleration from the V6 is a bit of a guilty pleasure. It's nice to have, but I know it's costing me a bit in gasoline consumption.
Cons
While I was glad to get a reliable, affordable, comfortable car with ABS -- not an easy combination to get in 1997 -- I was annoyed that I had to pay for the bigger engine in order to get that combination. Tires were initially a big expense, as the bigger engine came with pricey high-speed tires. Eventually I found (or the tire companies started producing -- I'm not sure whether the problem was availability or my own ignorance) less costly tires for this car, so that issue has improved in recent years.

2008 Honda Accord - Simple and Reliable

This car is simple, but reliable. I have had very few maintenance issues with the car and I have driven it about 90,000 miles in the past 7 years I have had it. The only issue I had involved declining performance in the brake system last year, but was a fairly inexpensive fix. The car is a spacious sedan and while it does have many bonus features like XM radio or a GPS system, it runs smoothly and does not break down easily. Because of its spacious interior, it is a bit long for a sedan and can at times be difficult to parallel park into tight spots.
Story
I drove with 4 of my friends from high school in this car to a beach house in Connecticut one summer, which was a fun time. The weather was nice, so we were able to put the sunroof down and feel the breeze. We comfortably fit out duffle bags and a few beach chairs in the trunk leaving plenty of room for everyone for the somewhat lengthy drive.
Pros
One of the most positive things about the vehicle is that there is a lot of room in the car. It has a fairly large trunk that can fit two large suitcases and there is plenty of legroom for 3 passengers in the back in addition to the driver and front passenger. While it is not the kind of car to rev up and move 0 to 60 quickly like a sports car, it does drive smoothly and can handle challenges like potholes or snow without breaking down. As a result, it is a very reliable vehicle.
Cons
While the car is spacious, it is also fairly big for a sedan and can be difficult to parallel park in tight spaces and to back out of parking spots. In addition, while it is reliable, it does not provide the most fun experience in terms of rapid acceleration or a convertible roof. However, it does have a retractable sunroof.

I chose this over the Camry simply because I thought it looked better. I have to say the car is brilliant. The power comes on perfectly from a red light and even better when I need to merge on the highway or pass a slower moving vehicle. The interior is very roomy and it seems bigger than the Camry.
Story
I was driving on a sunday morning to a golf outing. I got there early really early before the sun even rose. I wanted to play that course for a while and was waiting for a few weeks for a reservation. The tee time was early enough but certainly I did not need to be there before sunrise. When I got there my buddy who plays with me brought his convertible with the top down. It was an older car. ... (more)
Pros
Great design; it looks muscular and manly. The engine is smooth and powerful. I step on the gas and it is ready to go with little to no hesitation. It gets pretty good fuel economy, too. I tend to drive fast and have a lead foot so fuel economy is not really my thing.
Cons
The color options are a bit limited. I wanted something that was pretty different, especially when it comes in the Sport Edition but that isn't the case or it isn't the case for my taste. I am growing to like the radio, but truthfully I am an old school grump that liked big knobs that made it easy to change the radio station so I don't have to take my eyes off the road. I have accepted that these are modern times, but I still wish the radio was simpler.
