2006 Honda Civic - A no frills car made for the everyday commute
The 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid was the last hybrid available with a manual transmission until the CR-Z was released. It's Honda's first step into the Hybrid vehicle market and it definitely shows signs of growing pains.
Story
It always attracts those knowledgeable about cars because they have never seen a Hybrid with a 5-speed manual before.
Pros
It's basically the same as the gasoline-only Civic, in both appearance and function, except it's capable of getting 50+ MPG.
Its was the only Hybrid available with a manual transmission for that model year.
Cons
It's very slow. The car has a combined 85 horsepower and its lack of power is apparent in almost every situation.
Because of the battery pack, it's also heavier than the average Civic so handling is negatively affected.
The electric motor actually does very little work, so the MPG benefits do not always meet expectations.
2006 Honda Civic - A great first car.
My 2006 Honda Civic has been one of the most rewarding economic decisions I have made since buying it second hand at 100,000 miles and nine years ago. The Civic has moved me and my things to five apartments, commuted with me across multiple jobs, driven with me across the US in both directions, and bared with me through multiple blizzards back east and sandstorms in the west. There are three important categories I consider the Civic to excel: utility, cost of ownership, and reliability. The Civic is most comfortable for drivers and passengers shorter than six feet with a low roof line, but rear passengers have above average leg room. The Civic LX model with its four-cylinder engine is under powered in today's standard but makes up for it with a well tuned five-speed automatic, hard to... (more)
Story
My most memorable moment with the Civic was on a cross-country drive from New York to California in March. As a New Yorker, I thought I knew that winter was nearing its end, but Lake Tahoe crossing knew otherwise. We were making record time averaging 1,200 miles on days one and two. As the elevation increased from Reno up I-50, the road was becoming more snow covered by the minute. Off to the ... (more)
Pros
The two-tiered dash polarizing in the first year has aged well and is pleasantly simple with ever increasing technologies in modern standards. Exceptionally low maintenance by design. Minimal scheduled maintenance thru 100,000 miles, including permanent timing chain and traditional torque converter automatic transmission.
Cons
The engine at idle has always had loud valve noise, especially when cold. The cabin has minimal sound padding against highway and wind noise. The LX interior has well matched materials, but the seats and seat adjustment will not be comfortable to many.

2012 Honda Civic - Honda Of Hayward
They provided great costumer service, and were very knowledgeable about the products they were selling. I felt well taken care off, and they had plenty of time for all of my questions, without seeming like they were rushed. I was able to take the car back to the dealership to have them look at an issue with the car for no extra charge.
