I purchased my 1997 Honda CRV "as is" from a used dealership in 2011 after my Toyota was totaled. I should have known it was not well-taken care of when I purchased it by looking at the worn tires and broken side mirror. But, a friend of mine owned a similar Honda CRV and I really liked how that one ran. So, I was quite hopeful that this one would be just as good. After pouring thousands of dollars into repairs to keep it going, the engine block finally cracked in 2015 and I gleefully traded it in for a much better vehicle.
Story
I owned a Toyota Corolla before I purchased this Honda. I moved to a more wintery location and my poor Toyota would always get stuck in the snow. The first winter that rolled around with the Honda, I never got stuck again as the chassis was much higher off the ground.
Pros
This was my first small SUV. I really liked how upright the seats were with it, I felt like I could easily scan around and see other vehicles really well. It also had enough room in the back for storing luggage, groceries, and anything else I needed to haul around. I could easily fit lumber from the front to the back as well. The real-time all-wheel drive, while it worked, was amazing on snow and ice.
Cons
Despite the good things about it, there were also a lot of bad things with the Honda CRV. It could be a fluke with the one I had, and it could also be the age of it. But it needed thousands of dollars in extensive repairs: tires, engine, brakes, all-wheel drive, transmission, and especially the drive line and suspension. This was the biggest bummer thinking about when I owned it, all the debt it put me in. I was glad to finally be in a position to buy a newer vehicle when the engine finally cracked and the coolant lines kept leaking.

I love the CRV. I got this car used so it had a couple dings, but aside from that, it runs like a champ. The engine is a strong V4, enough for towing a light trailer but also fuel efficient enough to be a daily driver. I generally get about 22 mpg in the city and 30 or more on the highway. The CRV handles well, I've taken it off-road and the handling was fine. In terms of maintenance, it's been about average. I've got about 60k miles on the vehicle now and it's still going strong. The tires are fine, but I can definitely feel the road. I think the suspension could be a little more robust, but overall it's a comfortable ride. The visibility is a little hard. The windows for the driver sometimes block views going around curves, which can be annoying, but it's not a deal breaker. The seat... (more)
Story
We took it to the beach and the all-wheel drive came in handy for getting around.
Pros
Favorite features would be the fuel efficiency, reliability and easy of maintenance.
Cons
The microphone for Bluetooth is weak and I think the suspension could be upgraded.

The internet sales folks were really friendly and offered a great price. The people at the dealership were warm and friendly. I was offered explanation of every single detail of the vehicle and it's feature. The sales person was really patient and understanding and answered all my questions on the financing of the vehicle. He also explained the pricing of the car and was very comfortable in the price negotiation process. I could trust the sales person and the dealership in the complete process of buying the vehicle. The dealership folks also explained all the features of the car after the deal was completed and offered great after-sale services.

When we showed up to look, we didn't have any sort of idea of what we wanted. The staff there were polite and patient, talking through many options with us as we decided what we wanted to get. They felt genuine, not slimy, and were great at explaining little details as well as helping with financing options and making sure the cars we were interested in were a good fit for our needs.
