The 2010 Hyundai Elantra has good fuel economy ratings and plenty of passenger space, but critics say it can feel a bit underpowered. For the 2010 model year, coupe and GT hatchback models join the Hyundai Elantra sedan, and all body styles have a four-cylinder engine and standard six-speed manual transmission. A six-speed automatic is optional. Most test drivers say that the engine strains under hard acceleration, but agree that overall, the Elantra benefits from accurate steering, smooth transmissions and a comfortable ride. With either transmission, the Elantra has good EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 28/38 mpg city/highway. Auto reviewers agree that the Elantra GT and coupe are sportier than the base sedan, but several also mention that car shoppers who want more refined ha... (more)
Pros
Excellent fuel economy, strong value, bold styling, plenty of passenger space, available coupe model, long warranty. The Hyundai Elantra sedan keeps it simple with just two trim levels: GLS and Limited. The Elantra Coupe, meanwhile, is offered in GS or SE trim. In a welcome change for 2013, the base GLS sedan is no longer what we'd call a stripped-down model. Its standard equipment now includes 16-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, cruise control, and a tilt-telescopic steering wheel, as well as carryover features like a height-adjustable driver seat, full power accessories, a trip com... Cons
Not as quick or refined as some rivals. Despite the highly creditable competition, though, Elantra’s sleek, low-slung design remains one of the standout lookers in the segment. There have been few changes to Elantra apart from a minor spec update in March, which saw all three variants (Active, Elite and Premium) gain a new five-inch color touch screen audio system along with chrome interior door handles (Elite and Premium variants only). Aerodynamic windshield wipers were also added across the range to reduce wind noise and improve the look. Those expecting a more substantial update wi... (more)

This was my first brand new car. I needed a car that was dependable enough to get me to and from work and Dallas and the Chevy I had wasn't cutting it. I checked out the safety ratings and did as much research as I could before setting on the Elantra. It was affordable and I was able to get low payments on it which really helped me out.
Story
Getting to show it to my grandmother before she passed away. I was so proud and I was able to show her that I had accomplished.
Pros
The Elantra is excellent on gas mileage. I get about 30 a gallon if I am driving on the highway and a little less if in town. It's also comfortable to ride in, the seat warmers are to die for. The back up camera is super helpful if I am trying to get out of the parking lot at a busy store and it makes me feel safer. The tire check is helpful as well and lets me know when I need to put a little air in my tires.
Cons
The paint on the front chipped when I had to drive through road work a few times. I feel like it should have been able to withstand this. I wish it had settings for each driver like some of the other cars have because when my husband drives it takes forever for me to correct the mirrors and seat.
