The Hyundai Santa Fe was the first SUV I ever drove and completely changed my view on sport utility vehicles. As a former sedan driver I thought the only way to get around was low and fast, but once I stepped up into that Santa Fe something changed. I couldn't put my finger on it at first; was it the security I felt at an elevated level? Was it all the extra space inside the vehicle that made me comfortable? Maybe it was the Eco mode saving me gas and money. In the end I copped out, it was everything. The Hyundai Santa Fe makes me feel almost as secure as the time I got to ride in a M1 Abrams tank and as comfortable as a limousine passenger. I will never go back to sedans again.
Story
I will not go into detail, but on a cool, summer night by a lake, my girlfriend and I utilized the fold down seats vigorously.
Pros
In comparison to a sedan, the inside space was a real plus. Being able to fold down the back seats allowed me to use all that space for more outdoor activities. The sheer size of the car altogether makes me feel safer out on the road. As a victim of a rear end collision that totaled a previous car, I feel much safer now knowing roughly 40% of cars out there can't really hurt me. Let's not forget about Hyundai's 10yr, 100,000 mile warranty!!
Cons
There is only one downside to the vehicle and it only pertains to certain parking situations. I live in a relatively suburban area with a garage/driveway, but when I need to go into the city and parallel park I start to sweat! Other than that, the car has held up great. I'm almost at 60,000 miles and haven't had to go into the shop for anything other than routine check ups.

2001 Hyundai Santa Fe - It has been a decent vehicle considering the age and miles.

I bought this vehicle used about 3 years ago. It had about 200,000 miles on it already but I only bought the car because I needed one asap and I wasn't planning on keeping it this long. It now has 270,000 miles on it and the engine and transmission seem to be running fine. I recently had to replace the alternator and have been having a lot of issues with the suspension and steering components as well as electrical problems that keep getting worse. The overall performance of the car is decent but nothing impressive except that it's still running with almost 300,000 miles on it. I hate the body design, but the interior is ok. I definitely would never buy another one. At least not an older year model.
Story
I haven't really had any fun times with this vehicle since I'm always worried something is going to go wrong with my steering or suspension and cause me to have an accident.
Pros
Still running at 270,000 miles. MPG averages about 19 mpg, but there have been times when I have gotten about 26 mpg.
Cons
Front seats have a huge gap between the seat and the back of the seat so I am constantly losing things in the seats and it is almost impossible to retrieve them. Electrical problems (power door locks work intermittently, radio/cd/cassette functions change when going over bumps, radio turns on and off going over bumps, headlights will dim out of no where, gearshift interior lights and climate control lights don't illuminate anymore, key fob remote doesn't always work even with brand new battery). Bottom sub frame is rusted. Constantly going out of alignment. Suspension components keep faili... (more)

The dealer had a large and varied inventory. There was a wide selection of quality automobiles. I was able to secure acceptable financing terms. The sales rep was knowledgeable about features of various models. They were able to put me in an auto that suited me for an affordable price.
