The trooper was a very good vehicle. Especially for the time I needed it. The cargo space and accessibility of that space were a major selling point for me originally. Ample room for five people and pretty much an entire month's worth of groceries. Solid craftsmanship on the vehicle itself. Wonderful MPG and mostly a low maintance SUV. But once one thing in the car goes bad it starts a cascade of a bunch of other little things.
Title
We usually have pretty bad snow storms around winter time here. And when I originally bought the trooper alot of crossover hybrid suv's were coming out. The '94 trooper has 4 wheel drive but its not full time 4 wheel drive. One night we has horrible snowfall. In the morning while i was switching on the 4wheel drive all of these soccer moms go flying thru the subdivision in their hybrids smirki... (more)
Pros
The cargo space on the Trooper is phenomenal. We've used it multiple time to cart five people and all the luggage associated with them to out of state conventions. It's extremely comfortable for all of us, even on multi-hour drives. The SUV handles like a dream usually and is roomy enough that you don't feel crammed into the drivers seat.
Cons
It seemed that it was never just one thing that went bad at a time on the vehicle. And when one thing went out it was usually quickly followed by another and another. Like first the power steering pump would go, then the timing belt a day later, then the radiator. You'd get everything fixed in one go at a mechanic and everything's fine for about sixe months... then it would happen again with a different part.

I really like the size and how great it has been for the past 15 years. It has made multiple trips down and up the east coast and has seen 3 kids grown up. It has been rear ended or hit multiple times and it has walked away with barely a problem. It has been overall dependable.
Title
We took stuffed this car full when moving in and out of college. One of the suitcases that were strapped to the top fell when we were driving!!!
Pros
It has a great and powerful four wheel drive. It can tackle snow and ice. There is a huge storage space for moving in college students or huge Costco trips. We were able to rig our own 3rd row of seats in the trunk for road trips. The front grill is massive and includes fog lights. The exterior of the car has held up and is just beginning to show its age. Despite people citing roll over problems, I have yet to experience any.
Cons
The 4 wheel drive has given out after 15 years but the vehicle is still going strong. The interior is very cheap feeling and gets dirty really easily. The gas mileage is horrible in today's standards. The pedal takes quite a bit of acceleration to move the car as its pretty heavy.

This is a quality vehicle with lots to boast about. It fits many passengers. It is especially good for my family because my husband is very tall and ceiling height is not issue. It runs strong and is average in gas mileage.
Title
My husband and I went on an evening drive on the coast. We decided to stop on a cliff. He backed the truck in, and we opened the back doors to the stars over the ocean. We sat in the back compartment comfortably for sometime.
Pros
Four-wheel capabilities. 18 city/20 highway mileage. Fold-down backseat bench. Standard opening back doors with a small back door for larger items. Towing capabilities. Spacious. Roof rack.
Cons
Gas mileage could be better. It is a bit dated. Doesn't have cruise control.
