The Jaguar XJS is a joy to own and drive. It is an amazing highway cruiser with suspension that gives modern cars a run for their money.
Story
The fuel pump died once and a few nearby gentlemen were more than happy to help me push the car multiple blocks home. They noticed as soon as I broke down because they had been admiring the car from the sidewalk.
Pros
The V12 engine makes passing and cruising a breeze. The power comes in at higher revs, so the car does fantastically on the highway. Though the seats look basic, they are very comfortable as are the armrests. Even with 30 year old suspension, the car is more comfortable than most modern vehicles. It has been a reliable daily drive for 6 years.
Cons
The GM 3 speed slows the car down and ruins its gas mileage.

When I first began researching new cars it was strongly suggested that I avoid looking at Jaguar. However contrary to what I heard , I persisted in my favorable opinion and did purchase one in 2002. I always liked the Jaguar look , dating back to my first experience riding in a 1959 XK Roadster convertible. That sold me and for years I always thought of buying one. However as married man I felt the XJ was a more practical vehicle. I did much research and found that most of the misgivings with the Jaguar dated to the days when it was owned by Ford. Electrical issues were a thing of the past , so I bought one. For the many years that I drove it , not only did I not experience any electrical problems but I never had any major issues and only a few minor ones. The car was Black with a Bla... (more)
Story
I allowed my neighbors 10 year old son to drive the car in our private cul-de-sac and he almost swiped a mailbox going about 8 mile an hour. That was the fastest he went . Way too much car for a youngster.
Pros
Comfort, styling , safety , sleekness, elegance, speed, and confidence in the vehicle. The interior was ergonomically designed so as you sat in the drivers seat , you felt surrounded by instruments. The center console gave you the feeling that you were in a sleek jet as opposed to a car. The exterior was state of the art sleekness. However the change in design in the current models does give my '02 dated look.
Cons
Not many , but the ability to drive in even the slightest of snow was not favorable. The car despite its weight had virtually no more traction in the snow that my wife's little Mercedes convertible. The price for service also was a slight detriment , but this was something we were aware of before purchase. Tires were expensive but fortunately lasted for over 50k miles.
