The salesman I dealt with was very professional and extremely nice. After we test drove the jeep, as I was waiting for the paper work to start, he offered food and drinks, which I thought was a nice touch. The overall feel of the dealership was more luxury, it was very nice inside with professional staff. Everyone I encountered was nice and greeted me with a smile.

The 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a marvel of bad design. Numerous recalls have came from this design, and it covers a swath of items from drive train, to the air conditioning system, to interior problems such as faulty electronics. The Jeep is a true four wheel drive and does good in snow and off roading. It'll even go over curbs no problem. It is a unibody design which makes it lighter than other SUV's such as Ford who offer a body on a frame design as in their Excursion line. Gas mileage is typical of the SUV's from this time frame. Mine gets around 16 in the city, and 19 on the highway. It has enough room in the back to haul cargo such as chairs, or PVC pipe or camping equipment for three people. My Jeep has the 4.0 Liter, inline six cylinder engine and has over 200,000 miles on it. ... (more)
Story
I took my Jeep off roading one day and it did wonderful. I had a full size spare tire on top, and me and my friends went to an area for off roading that a normal car wouldn't even make it over the first rock. The 4WD system worked great.
Pros
The 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a unibody design which makes it lighter than a SUV which has a separate frame and body. This means better gas mileage, and it handles rough terrain better in my opinion. The Jeep came with many accessories that I liked such as a useable roof rack that can hold quite a bit of things such as bikes, camping equipment, even furniture. I used it once to move a mattress and box spring. You could carry book cases on top, or even a recliner. The Jeep came with a cassette deck and 4 speakers. Two in the front doors and two in the back. They still sound great despite ... (more)
Cons
This year model Jeep has a few problems which seem to be the result of bad designing. The first problem is brakes. They simply are not large enough to really stop this big vehicle as quickly as a smaller car. You may be saying to yourself, "well its a heavier vehicle." That would be true except when I say you have to land on these brakes to stop it, its no joke. Most people I know who drive a smaller car that have driven my jeep say they can't stop it because they aren't used to pushing the brake pedal down so hard. The air conditioning system is the next big issue, There have been recalls... (more)

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a solid SUV, and has been a fun car to drive. It is rugged yet comfortable to drive, and can handle most situations. The car does not have the best towing capacity, and requires the 4WD whenever you experience any ice or snow for sure. The car has been a dependable and trustworthy SUV for going on 8 years. It does not have many bells and whistles, but drives good.
Story
We went to a Jeep meet-up. Never knew they existed, but you can go online and Jeep enthusiasts meet up and do tailgates, etc... It was sort of fun. Mostly the more rugged Jeep wranglers, but we had fun.
Pros
4WD which is necessary in even the slightest snow or ice, and in towing situations. It is a very solid car, and difficult to damage. We have owned the car for 8 years and 100,000 with no major repairs other than routine maintenance.
Cons
The car is slightly underpowered compared to other SUV's in its class. The SUV is also a bit smaller in capacity than similarly priced SUV's (for example Ford Explorer or Toyota 4Runner). Also, it struggles to tow a midsize boat, but my Dad's 4Runner pulls the same boat, no sweat. Lastly the gas mileage is disappointing seeing as it is not overly powerful. You are lucky to get 21 MPG highway, and more like 16 MPG in town.
