The 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a marvel of bad design. Numerous recalls have came from this design, and it covers a swath of items from drive train, to the air conditioning system, to interior problems such as faulty electronics. The Jeep is a true four wheel drive and does good in snow and off roading. It'll even go over curbs no problem. It is a unibody design which makes it lighter than other SUV's such as Ford who offer a body on a frame design as in their Excursion line. Gas mileage is typical of the SUV's from this time frame. Mine gets around 16 in the city, and 19 on the highway. It has enough room in the back to haul cargo such as chairs, or PVC pipe or camping equipment for three people. My Jeep has the 4.0 Liter, inline six cylinder engine and has over 200,000 miles on it. ... (more)
Story
I took my Jeep off roading one day and it did wonderful. I had a full size spare tire on top, and me and my friends went to an area for off roading that a normal car wouldn't even make it over the first rock. The 4WD system worked great.
Pros
The 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a unibody design which makes it lighter than a SUV which has a separate frame and body. This means better gas mileage, and it handles rough terrain better in my opinion. The Jeep came with many accessories that I liked such as a useable roof rack that can hold quite a bit of things such as bikes, camping equipment, even furniture. I used it once to move a mattress and box spring. You could carry book cases on top, or even a recliner. The Jeep came with a cassette deck and 4 speakers. Two in the front doors and two in the back. They still sound great despite ... (more)
Cons
This year model Jeep has a few problems which seem to be the result of bad designing. The first problem is brakes. They simply are not large enough to really stop this big vehicle as quickly as a smaller car. You may be saying to yourself, "well its a heavier vehicle." That would be true except when I say you have to land on these brakes to stop it, its no joke. Most people I know who drive a smaller car that have driven my jeep say they can't stop it because they aren't used to pushing the brake pedal down so hard. The air conditioning system is the next big issue, There have been recalls... (more)

I bought my Jeep Grand Cherokee a little over three years ago and I have had nothing but positive experiences with the Jeep so far. During the last three years, there have been approximately a dozen recalls for the model of Jeep I own, but the dealership has made it very easy to get the recall issues addressed. I have moved since I bought my Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Jeep has notified me every step of the way on how to get my recalls taken care of. If they could not fit me into an appointment, they were able to make an appointment for me in the very near future and they even gave me a loaner vehicle to use while my family and I were waiting on our Jeep recalls to be fixed. In addition to promptly notifying me and fixing out Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep has been very good about with upd... (more)
Story
My son and I have had a great time using out Jeep to go off-roading and get to difficult to reach places for camping.
Pros
My family and I enjoy several things about our Jeep Grand Cherokee. One of the things that my six year old son enjoys the most is that the Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited has plugs in the back seat for him to be able to plug in his iPad, iPhone, etc.; my wife and I enjoy that a lot as well, because it makes our long cross-country road trips with our son much more enjoyable since he is engaged throughout the trip. My family and I have driven our Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited on 500+ mile road trips on many occasions, and we have had nothing but good experiences with it. We have been very happy... (more)
Cons
I really do not have any complaints about my Jeep Grand Cherokee; I love it.

CarMax has always been a dependable and honest car dealer. This particular dealership had the exact car I was looking for, so I guess that is the main reason I selected this location. However CarMax's "no haggle" policy and 120 point inspection were a big influence as well.

The employees here were very friendly and very knowledgeable about my vehicle. They also knew a lot about the recall that I had come in for and were good at explaining why the recall occurred and what would be changing with my Jeep. I highly recommend anyone with questions about their Jeep contact this dealer and use this deal for recall and general maintenance.
