2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee - A good, but not great car
First the pros of the car. It is very easy to drive. The turning radius is very decent and the steering is effortless. It has plenty of room inside, but it's not so big that it is hard to park or maneuver. The backseats fold down to increase the storage space. Comes in handy if you do not want to take your fishing rods apart. The 4WD system is OUTSTANDING. I have the full time system, and have never had trouble with snow or mud. The interior materials feel well made and the seats are comfortable. On the road, the ride is smooth and quiet. Now, the cons. First, the performance of this car is subpar. I have the 3.7L V6, and it is woefully underpowered. Push the pedal to the floor and you will be met with a lag before you start to accelerate. Once the car starts to accelerate it is very... (more)

Not a good car where you will be doing significant commuting on busy roads. Second, this car is THIRSTY. The estimated MPG is low, but I struggle to even get those numbers and I don't drive aggressively. Finally, I have had some reliability issues. Oxygen sensors, starters, and the sway bar have all given me problems.
Had the most snow in Kentucky in decades. While most cars could not even get out of the parking lot, I was driving all over the city and doing donuts without ever worrying about getting stuck.

1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee - Very dependable vehicle.
This vehicle is very durable. I bought it used and have owned it for five years. I bought the vehicle when it already had 150,000 miles on it, and it now has close to 250,000 miles. I have never had any major repair work done, besides replacing the power steering (or whatever part is associated with that). The fabric ceiling on the interior has began to sag some, but this cosmetic issue doesn't bother me since the car never fails to get me from point A to point B. I did have to replace the muffler and pipe under the car that connects to the muffler, but the pipe was still the original, and it didn't need replacing until after the car was above 200,000 miles, so I'm happy with that. I was also able to drive the car for a few months after noticing it needed replacement -- it made a... (more)

I was also able to drive the car for a few months after noticing it needed replacement -- it made a little extra noise but did not affect the usability of the car. Overall, I'm very pleased with my Jeep, and when it comes time to replace it, I will once again choose Jeep.
Taking it to our yearly, family, farm trip. I am able to drive it through the rolling hills of our Kentucky farm, and it makes a great place to sleep if the weather doesn't cooperate -- nearly a full-size bed when the rear seats are folder down.

The engine is a work horse. It has over 250,000 miles on it, and it's in great shape (according to my mechanic). The exterior look of the vehicle is still pretty modern, so it doesn't stand out as a car that is over 20 years old. I have never had any trouble with the four-wheel drive, and it works great during snow/ice conditions. Maintaining the vehicle is relatively expensive, with American-made parts that never seem to be very costly compared to my previous car. The power windows are still going strong as well, something I've never had work so well on a vehicle this old. The inter... (more)

The power windows are still going strong as well, something I've never had work so well on a vehicle this old. The interior seating is very comfortable, and the rear seats fold down very easily to allow for more storage room when I go camping. And yes, I take this vehicle on camping/road trips, and am confident driving it 100s of miles from my house without any problems. The tire on the rear is very easy to remove and provides an extra layer of security, in my mind, between a rear-end collision and my dog, who often rides in the very back.
While there isn't a lot I don't like about this vehicle, the exterior paint job seems to fade more and more with each year. The power locks haven't worked in a while, and it's very expensive to get that fixed -- I wish they had more cost effective ways to fix something that isn't a mechanically related issue. The car's alignment is always off. I had that fixed once four years ago, but within two years, it was off again. I do drive the vehicle on unpaved roads, but never do I go off-roading, so I expect the alignment to be a bit more sturdy. The fabric ceiling has dropped some, which I... (more)

The fabric ceiling has dropped some, which I had to use safety pins to keep it from hitting my head when I drive. The sun visor on the driver side also doesn't stay up. While the interior is comfortable, the bucket seats are very narrow and are not as comfortable for my partner who is a little overweight. The break pads are difficult to change myself on this vehicle, so I have to rely on a mechanic to do that every few years (something I have always done myself on past vehicles). The front right tire seems to wear down much quicker than the rest, possibly a condition of the alignment that is off. The gas mileage on this vehicle isn't very good.
