Great for off-road and daily driver!
It's a great car, equally capable on road or off. The gas mileage is really good for a Jeep, which was a huge selling point for me. The interior may be a little plain, but that makes it easy to clean and less prone to looking worn.

Point A to Point B
The 2008 Jeep Patriot is not the worst car you can own, but there are certainly better ones. Compared to newer Patriots, the 2008 technology seems extremely outdated. With less than 120k miles on it, it struggles heavily and often whines when you accelerate. Other than that, it is an excellent point A to point B car and then some. It is equipped with an aux port and that is my favorite part of the car. Initially, the car was supposed to be a simple tan color, but they had sold the one we were promised so it was actually red. If choosing between Jeeps, I'd recommend a Wrangler over a Patriot, or at least a much newer Patriot than the 2008 - even a 2010. The updated interior (tan to black, better sound system) in the 2010 is a large selling point. The Patriot has a large hatchback trunk and provides ample seating. It comfortably seats 5 people without having to worry about close corners. It has excellent braking, I will vouch for that. Too many times have I had close calls and needed to slam on the breaks due to other drivers, and the Patriot is excellent for that. It also is very safe, if any accident were to occur I would feel relatively safe depending on the severity, of course. At eight years old, it is not a horrible vehicle, but it is not the most aesthetically pleasing. It is a reliable vehicle, most definitely. I would mainly recommend it to families.

Jeep Patriot just okay.
This vehicle was an absolute nightmare the first couple of months I owned it. It died while driving it around in a new city twice, and I had to have it towed to multiple dealerships. I also had to leave it in another state and take a rental home because no one could figure out what was going on. After visiting four different dealerships (because the problem would come back), it was finally fixed correctly. After these episodes, the car has been fairly fun to drive. I like the fact that it's not gigantic but not tiny like most sedans. There is a decent amount of passenger space, although the back doors could be larger, and that would make it better. Its gas mileage is alright. I went to this from a 2002 Civic so about the same there. The car was a decent price for what I got, so I am pleased about that aspect of it. It's an okay car, but I'm not sure I would buy one again or recommend this particular Jeep to a friend. If I had no engine problems to begin with I would probably have a more favorable view of the car, but it's always in the back of mind that it might happen again, and I could be stranded anywhere. It's more of a concern now that I have a child.
