2008 Jeep Patriot - Easy to maintain and great gas mileage

I purchased my 2008 Jeep Patriot when my car was totaled in an out-of-state accident. Knowing I had to get home safely, I wanted a car with relatively low miles, a sturdy frame, and room to store my travelling items. I didn't think I'd like a white vehicle, but I love how it doesn't get as warm as my past cars have, and it's easy to maintain the leather interior.
Story
Since my Jeep is exactly like the Forest Service vehicles in my area, I love driving through the National Park and seeing people slow down or stop doing whatever illegal thing they're doing because they think I'm a Park Ranger. It's been sort of fun.
Pros
I get great mileage out of this standard transmission vehicle. It's not uncommon to hit the 40 mpg mark. I like the sturdy frame of the vehicle, and I love the leather interior because it's easy to clean and takes a beating. I love the simplicity of the vehicle, too. The cargo capacity is better than you might imagine. It's also great on dirt roads and ice.
Cons
I don't really like the fact that you have to use over 90 lbs. of torque on the wheel bolts. It has led to a couple of stripped nuts on the rear tires. Also, my version tends to get a lot of leaf litter buildup in the space just below the front windshield and, occasionally, it gets so gunked up that hot water drips inside the car on your feet. I also don't like the engine cover. I know it's intended to keep the engine casing clean, but in my experience, it's made oil changes a bit more difficult.

I bought this vehicle because I previously had a Jeep Cherokee, and like the smaller, more versatile Jeeps. I like having an SUV, but also like having part time four wheel drive, which helps on gas mileage. Generally, it's a real comfortable vehicle with a spacious interior. The back two seats can also be folded down for more storage room, which I've even used when camping.
Story
I was recently rear ended on the freeway coming home from work. The car behind me was much smaller and hit my tow hitch, so that no damage was done to my vehicle, but there's was nearly totaled.
Pros
Part time four wheel drive - In off-road, or more dangerous road conditions, you can switch to four wheel drive, but for regular commuting, you can switch to two wheel drive, which helps with gas mileage. Roomy interior - There's plenty of space for up to 5 people, and the back two seats can also be folded down to provide more storage room. Size - Even though I like the older, more compact versions of this vehicle, the larger size does provide an advantage with the handling.
Cons
Gas Mileage - It's an SUV, so even in two wheel drive, the gas mileage isn't great. Size - I prefer the smaller size Jeeps like the old 2 door Cherokee, but it seems like all current Jeeps besides Wranglers are being made larger.
