The 2012 Kia Optima is a solid vehicle overall. The car is designed to look like more of a luxury vehicle (I've had more than one person mistake it for a Lexus) but comes at a price point closer to a regular sedan. While some lower-end Kia models seem cheaply made, this model ditches the dull plastic parts for a more sleek appearance on the inside. The Kia Optima has proven to be reliable and comfortable, which is by far its strongest asset.
Story
I live in a relatively wealthy area where I am certainly one of the lowest-income residents (tons of Mercedes, Audis, and so on all around) and the Optima doesn't look out of place here at all.
Pros
The car's interior is clearly designed to give a luxury feel, with much more trim than your base Kia model. Sitting behind the wheel, you notice the dash display is oriented toward the driver rather than the center console, making the driver's seat feel like the cockpit of a plane. The electronic module shows your mpg in real-time, plus two trip counters and a counter displaying miles until the tank is empty. The steering wheel comes fully equipped with radio controls and cruise control functionality. All the electronics are intuitive and provide an easy user experience that can be picked ... (more)
Cons
While this vehicle is excellent for commuting, it lacks significant power/acceleration (at least in the standard V4), leaving a lot to be desired for more leisurely driving. It's also not quite roomy enough to carry multiple kids/pets, which leaves this car as an awkward in-betweener at times - many people would be better served with an SUV or a less bulky, more powerful sedan. The other main negative here is visibility. The Kia Optima has large blind spots on the sides and rear visibility is quite limited compared to more open models. My last car was a 1997 Toyota Camry and it felt like y... (more)

I got my car used, and it was in a wreck from the prior owner. The wreck is hardly noticeable (other than the shoddy craftsmanship), and it hasn't impacted the drivability of the car at all. This car is basically a tank and can withstand car wrecks without being totaled. They mean their safety rating; this car was made to last! It currently has 35,000 miles, and my mechanic commented on how the internals still look brand new. It still drives and handles very well, and I feel like I got a new car, just at 1/3 the price of a new car! The car is very sleek looking and dependable, and it is built to last.
Story
We were driving through a prairie, and we were able to see wild bison without scaring them off--it was really neat!
Pros
It has been in two car wrecks, and it holds up like a tank. The internals are still basically brand new, even though it has been in wrecks. The safety ratings for this car are phenomenal. It's a very attractive car. I constantly receive compliments on how cool it looks. It is also a cheap car and looks like much higher quality for its cheap price, which is well worth it. The tank is huge! I can regularly drive it 450+ miles before having to refill it.
Cons
The previous owner crashed the car, and their maintenance they got on it was junky. It isn't bad awful, but it wasn't good. They didn't replace some of the clips and glued the bumper on, so it is slightly loose. The car has pretty bad mileage, definitely nothing like a hybrid. It eats gas for a sedan, but it has a big tank to make up for it. The Bluetooth isn't great. The software system in the car takes way too long to operate and control the music from your device in a hands-free manner. It doesn't have great acceleration, and the cruise control brakes too hard and doesn't conserve fuel ... (more)

The area of the dealership was only 15 minutes away from our home and the car we wanted was available.
