I was not looking for a Kia when I bought the Sportage In fact, I had never owned a Kia before. I bought it because it looked cute. I did not expect it to last long, but it has surprised me. I like it because it has a sporty feel, it's easy to maneuver, and it's good on gas. I have driven it for over 60,000 miles and it has not needed any repairs. It is surprisingly roomy for a small SUV. The back seat folds flat for carrying large loads. The interior trim has held up all this time, and when I have the car cleaned, it could pass for new.
Story
My husband refused to drive it at first - he is a truck man, and he felt the Kia was too small. Once he actually drove it, however, he ended up impressed with it.
Pros
My favorite features are the styling, the turning radius, and the little extras on the inside. The styling keeps it from looking like an old used car. It has a nice, small turning radius (handy for when I miss my turn). There is a cup holder in the front, as well as a cup holder and ashtray in the rear. It's size and turning radium make it easy for me in crowded parking lots. The Shortage has a very responsive feel and is truly fun to drive.
Cons
I only have one negative thing to say about my Sportage. I do not like the design of the rear door. There is a hinged spare tire holder that must be opened in one direction, then the rear door raises in a different direction. It would have been nice if the spare tire holder were attached to the rear door, and swung open at the same time. As it is, there is a little lever that has to be turned to swing open the spare tire holder to access the rear door, and in order to swing open the spare tire holder, you have to turn the lever AND pull the holder at the same time. This takes two hands, so... (more)

I purchased this car in 2014. I traded in my truck, because my wife and I were having a child. At the time I had a single cab truck and as much as I didn't want to get rid of it, I did. When looking at my Sportage, I really liked the fact that the electronics were up to date. What I mean is it had Bluetooth connection, remote start, cruise control, power lock and windows, CD player, and XM Radio. It was really what I was looking for. Plus the powertrain wasn't too bad for a smaller SUV. I really wish that it was cheaper than it was, and I felt like I got a bit ripped off with my trade in, but there wasn't much I could do considering the situation I was in. The paint color was a nice cherry black which also doesn't really matter considering the Midwest has dirt rains often. Also, it fit... (more)
Story
My wife and I took a long road trip back to my hometown in Virginia. It was a 14-hour ride with a eight-month old, but it was still comfortable enough for the three of us for that long period of time. We stopped maybe seven times but never longer than ten minutes each.
Pros
As I said above the electronics in this car was what really pulled me to the manufacture of Kia. They seem to really get the fact that is todays current tech range, and they don't punish you for it by making you upgrade to the "higher package". Mines a lower-end model as far as package goes, and it's what they consider "basic."
Cons
Up until about the first year, I didn't have any complaints with the car. After that winter, I noticed some really bad chipping of pain around my front end. The headlights more specifically is where the paint damage is. Also, the clear coat/paint itself isn't a very good quality. As any car owner knows, other car owners have no consideration for new cars. So within a month of having the car, someone door dinged me, and it's like someone took a knife to my car. I have three total dings now because of other rude people.
