So far, my Towncar had 285,000 miles and counting. I only paid $1,000.00 for it. I change the oil regularly. It averages about 20 miles a gallon. The air bags went out. And I spent over$1,000.00 trying to fix them. That didn't work so I had to install a strut and spring conversion kit. Mechanically, there is nothing won't with the car. The only thing under the good I have replaced is the thermostat and a serpentine belt. Changed the antifreeze a few times. Replaced the ball joints. Had to replace the rear shaft drive this summer. Then put new wheel hub assembly on front. Car cover is coming off. And the ceiling is coming apart.
Story
We recently drove the car to Tennessee from Oklahoma. That was over 1,300 miles one way. We stayed there for four days. Traveled around did a lot of sightseeing. On the way back way, we drove around the city for an entire day. Then we stopped in Memphis.
Pros
The pros are it's an American-made car. The body is metal not fiberglass like today's cars. So if you get into a vehicle accident, you're sure to not get hurt. It has standard airbags. The parts for the car are easy to find and cheap to buy.
Cons
This vehicle come standard with an air ride suspension. It is common for the airbags in this vehicle to go out. When that happens you have to go through a number of things to figure out what the problem is. When mine went out, first I replaced the airbags, then I replaced the pump, then I check the electrical system. I fixed all that, and the airbag still didn't work.

I really enjoyed my 1997 Lincoln Town Car. It had the 4.6 liter modular Ford engine, which provided plenty of power but was efficient enough to give an average gas mileage of about 20 mpg. The suspension was very well engineered and provided a ride so smooth that it felt like you were driving a very comfortable Italian leather sofa. The interior was plush and had plenty of amenities and luxurious trim. This car was also an ideal ride for someone like myself who had a car audio hobby. I was able to fit monstrous sound systems in the spacious trunk, and the car was well insulated so the sound quality inside the cabin was great. The Town Car did have a few drawbacks though. One was that the plastic intake manifold was faulty and had to be recalled by the factory. The replacement part was ... (more)
Story
When I first played my new sound system, it blew my rear view mirror off the windshield and down onto the dash.
Pros
Power. Comfort. Fuel efficient. Trunk space. Suspension. Luxurious interior. Sound insulation.
Cons
Recalled parts. Failed suspension. Failed intake manifold.
