Performs great. Fun to drive. Was relatively affordable. Great mileage. It's difficult to fit child seats in the rear. Decent amount of trunk space for a car this size. Never really had any major problems with it. Easy to get parts for.
Story
Love driving it through the mountains with the windows down. Have taken it on many road trips, and it is a dependable car. Was a great single guy car and remains a pretty decent family car, though the kids have made quite a mess in the back.
Pros
Looks good. Good mileage.
Cons
Has a hard time fitting car seat in the back.

The car has held up remarkably well despite having close to 100k miles on it. Aside from some minor issues, i.e. less than $1k each, the maintenance costs on the car have been very manageable. Even though it looks small from the outside, it is comfortable for even tall people to sit in, in both the front and the back. Additionally, the trunk has more space than it appears from the outside. The only thing that has gone wrong with the car that I don't want to spend money on fixing is that sometimes the "open door" sensor comes on, even when all doors are securely closed. Because of this, I've had to turn off the interior lights that come on when a door is opened. This is unfortunate due to safety concerns especially at night.
Story
I live in the city, and I am not the best parallel parker, but this car has a delightfully tight turning radius, in addition to it being a small car. It makes it much easier to park, even with my sketchy parallel parking skills. It has made me feel a bit more confident in this skill because I know that I can wedge it in where I need to!
Pros
For a small not sporty car, it has great acceleration. It's one of my favorite things about this car. Also due to its small size, it has pretty good gas mileage on the highway at 30+ miles per gallon. Although some items have been to wear on the car (e.g. the button on the emergency break is now cracked), for my having owned it for 11 years and almost 100,000 miles, it is holding up very well, so I would rate it very high on reliability. It's a small thing, but I'm also glad that it has an AUX in port, so I can connect directly to a cell phone and play music or podcasts during my long comm... (more)
Cons
My biggest negative about this car is the small flaps that cover the holes in the bottom of the door. The holes should easily let water run out through the bottom of the door without water getting into the car, but the flaps enable dirt to build up, which block the holes. This happened a few too many times, resulting in both water build up in the door and water overflowing from the door and getting into my car. I also think that road noise in this car is pretty loud.

I really like this place - the staff was friendly and professional. Recently, my Mazda 3 had some problems and I was afraid that they were major issues. Cavalier Mazda arranged for my car to be towed in and checked out the car. Thankfully, the issue was a battery issue (I had just replaced the battery elsewhere, but accidently flooded the engine when trying to start it). After starting the car and letting it run, the service center found not other problems. They could have charged me for the diagnostic tests for the car, but did not. All I had to pay for was the tow. It is nice that someone still thinks of the customer relationship in long terms - I will go back again.

Carmax is great because their no haggle philosophy really translates to a no hassle, low stress, low maintenance experience. Their workers are efficient and knowledgeable. We went in on a Saturday to look at a used car they had in stock, test drove it, and purchased it (including financing) in about 2hrs. Carmax is a competent, cost-effective, minimal stress way to buy a car.
