Performs great. Fun to drive. Was relatively affordable. Great mileage. It's difficult to fit child seats in the rear. Decent amount of trunk space for a car this size. Never really had any major problems with it. Easy to get parts for.
Story
Love driving it through the mountains with the windows down. Have taken it on many road trips, and it is a dependable car. Was a great single guy car and remains a pretty decent family car, though the kids have made quite a mess in the back.
Pros
Looks good. Good mileage.
Cons
Has a hard time fitting car seat in the back.

First of all, a Mazda 3 was not our first choice. We only considered it because Ford bought Mazda, and the prices were good. After a test drive, and a little haggling, we were on our way. The car itself handles good except on ice. For some reason it likes to play slip-n-slide even though all the weight is on the front end and it's front wheel drive. Keep a close eye on your antenna as well. Ours has been stolen five or six times. Ours came with a 6 CD changer, sun/moon roof. One thing you HAVE to do is change the oil regularly. See, it doesn't have a regular oil filter, but a cartridge that fits into a plastic housing. The next thing to remember is that once something goes wrong, there's a cascade effect. Ours started a short time after a leak in the valve cover gasket popped up.... (more)
Story
This is the first car I let my daughters drive.
Pros
Plenty of room Decent gas mileage Telescoping steering wheel 6 CD changer
Cons
Once one thing goes wrong more follow in short order Plastic filter cartridge housing Needs more than the average amount of preventative maintenance

I really like this place - the staff was friendly and professional. Recently, my Mazda 3 had some problems and I was afraid that they were major issues. Cavalier Mazda arranged for my car to be towed in and checked out the car. Thankfully, the issue was a battery issue (I had just replaced the battery elsewhere, but accidently flooded the engine when trying to start it). After starting the car and letting it run, the service center found not other problems. They could have charged me for the diagnostic tests for the car, but did not. All I had to pay for was the tow. It is nice that someone still thinks of the customer relationship in long terms - I will go back again.

Carmax is great because their no haggle philosophy really translates to a no hassle, low stress, low maintenance experience. Their workers are efficient and knowledgeable. We went in on a Saturday to look at a used car they had in stock, test drove it, and purchased it (including financing) in about 2hrs. Carmax is a competent, cost-effective, minimal stress way to buy a car.
