2007 Mazda Mazda3 - Race car feel without the race car price.
Mazda uses the slogan "zoom, zoom" and it fits well. My former car was a Mazda 626 which was an unexpected purchase while walking through the lot between Honda and Toyota. I liked that car so much that I actively sought out another Mazda for my next vehicle. I happen to enjoy a manual transmission and Mazda puts me behind the wheel of a car sporty enough to feel luxurious without breaking the bank. The elite trim with leather interior, upgraded sound system, and sunroof makes the ride to and from work enjoyable. As a smaller car, it does have limited leg room for us taller guys (6' 2'') but it's adequate. Having an onboard GPS system may have been nice a decade ago, but with smart phones everywhere, it seems like wasted space. If you're looking for a fuel efficient car, this is not it.... (more)
Story
While getting new tires, one of the employees commented on my 3rd party bike rack (roof-mounted). He offered to buy the rack from me stating it added to the overall look of the car (he had a similar one). I asked if he was a road or mountain biker. He said he was not a biker at all -- he just wanted the rack for the looks!
Pros
Mazda makes a fun car to drive. The smaller car offers more stability and allows for a tighter turn radius. I didn't think I'd care that much about heated seats, but they have been fantastic on cold mornings.
Cons
I previously had a 99 Mazda 626 which averaged 34 miles per gallon. I was expecting the more compact, newer model to get better gas mileage, but actually it gets worse mileage -- average 24 mpg. I assume this is due to the more sporty styling, but I was a bit disappointed by this. I would also suggest a lighter interior color. Leather is nice, but black will burn your thighs in the summer!
2007 Mazda Mazda3 - Great car!
The car handles really well! This car is my first and the one I actively learned to drive in. Before I had worked with larger vehicles like SUVs. This one is perfect for a beginner!
The car also looks rather sporty and adorable. Mine is light blue and really seems like a "me" car. Especially since the front looks like someone doing :D <-- that face. It's pretty cute!
The downside is that it is an "older" car. It's almost 10 years old at this point so it's missing a lot of the more modern features that today's vehicles seem to have like built in GPS, Bluetooth, etc.
Another thing I love about the car is that the back seats can fold down and give greatly increased trunk space. The trunk is already very spacious, but fold down the backseats and it's even better! It's perfect for tra... (more)
Story
One time my friends and I were driving to a cosplay con in Raleigh. We had one seat in the back folded down and we had a multitude of fake swords, guns, shields, etc sticking into the back seat and towards the trunk. I went to get gas and then my friends all went inside to get snacks. It being cold, I pulled up from the gas pump and parked. I ended up parking next to a cop. Who was walking to... (more)
