I own a white 2008 Mercury Mariner Premier. I've really enjoyed this SUV for the most part. It is very similar to the Ford Escape (in fact both are built by Ford) but a bit more luxurious than the 2008 Ford Escape. The Premier version I purchased includes a 3.0 Liter V6 which is plenty of power for me - the acceleration and shifting feels quite smooth. On the exterior it has a luggage rack and hitch - I don't use these often, but they are a nice bonus to the car. Also, being very warm where I live, the light exterior keeps the car fairly cool during hot summer days. The interior is a nice light beige and gray color scheme with the seats being part leather/part cloth. Bonus features on the interior include 6 disk CD-changer, Aux In, Satellite radio, heated seats, and moon roof.
Story
We've taken this car on many trips - my favorite memory was going through a drive-through zoo trip with my wife and daughter in this car. We were constantly rolling the windows down and back up to feed and avoid getting mauled by invasive ostriches.
Pros
The overall handling of this car is nice and has a good feel to it. The Stereo system is well balanced and has nice features for a car that's 8 years old (aux in, satellite radio option, 6 disk cd changer, reads MP3 CDs). The body style is just what I was looking for (not too boxy and not too mini-van-like).
Cons
I had to replace the brakes not long after buying the car (this could have been just due to poor ownership in the past or the horrible roads in Oklahoma) It's developed a horrible squeaking coming from the rear windshield. Likely needs new weather stripping, but very annoying nevertheless.

2006 Mercury Mariner - Nothing but problems inside and out.

There are a few things I do like about the car like I like that there is a lot of room in the backseat and trunk... But from the day that be bought it we have had nothing but trouble with it. We have had to redo so many things under the hood .. We have spent a lot of money fixing this vehicle that we could probably have Bought a new one outright. Although we've had a lot of problems I do think the car is very stylish... I do love the look of it!!! The car is very comfortable and I love the heated seats but Shortly after buying the car the leather came off the doors exposing some kind of backing board and glue... At this point all 4 doors have done this. It is constantly in the shop and the gas mileage is terrible "between 15-17 mpg" The car is decent to drive and maintaining it is no... (more)
Story
The day we got the vehicle my husband got it stuck in the mud... Yes I'm sure he remembers me yelling at him quite well :)
Pros
I love the heated seats and spacious interior. I love that it really doesn't have much of a blind spot. I love the look and style.
Cons
It breaks down all the time. The leather came off the doors. It isn't reliable.
