2011 Nissan Sentra - The 2011 Nissan Sentra: A Nice Little Car
The 2011 Nissan Sentra is a nice little car. It turns well, has decent power, and gets you to where you want to be. It is a no-frills experience that may not appeal to the luxury-seeker, but the Sentra is dependable and comfortable. A great commuter rather than a long-distance trucker, this little car performs admirably for driving in the day or night, dry or wet.
Story
The first time I drove this car, it literally felt like a racecar compared to my old boat I had just traded in: fast, light, with great cornering. I came up with lots of excuses to drive for just threadbare reasons the first few weeks that I owned this car.
Pros
This Sentra was a nice upgrade from my previous car, a 2004 Chevrolet Classic. The Sentra turns quite neatly with its short wheelbase. Being small and presumably lightweight, it almost feels and handles like a performance vehicle (although it has the typical small four cylinder engine). The Sentra is a nice, comfortable little vehicle to get around in. The gas mileage isn't bad, either at about 34 mpg on the highway.
Cons
I'm not really kidding when I call the Sentra a nice LITTLE vehicle. This thing is small - by far the smallest car I've ever owned. After driving more than a couple of hours, the driver's seat isn't feeling so comfortable anymore. I have never had the opportunity to sit in the back seat of this thing, but let's just say that my three-year-old doesn't really have enough legroom back there (in his car seat, which takes up some space, but it still seems to be rather tight).
2013 Nissan Sentra - My favorite so far
This car is a dream come true. It gets great mileage, has a nice design, and has had minimal mechanical issues. It is relatively narrow which is great for parking in tighter spaces. Yet the wheelbase is higher than most sedans of a similar price. Purchased new in 2013, an easy vehicle to maintain.
Story
It gets a nice breeze with the windows down, so unless it's super hot out, I never need the air con.
Pros
I love that it is slightly higher than similarly priced sedans, it's great for navigating bumpy winter roads. Only stuck in a snow drift once while trying to get out of a parking spot during a nasty storm. The interior is comfortable. It gets great gas mileage. Most of my driving is city. The dash computer says I'm getting between 25 and 27 miles per gallon. After a lot of highway driving, it reads as 31 mpg.
Cons
The seats are narrower than the 2012. The roof height is comfortable for me at five foot, six inches, however I've gotten complaints from people three inches taller. Specifically, the complaint was that it was like having to limbo to get in and then shut the passenger door. Also there have been several recalls where the computer had to get an update. They related to the passenger airbag sensor. And each year when the temperature drops under zero for a few days, the air pressure sensor says that the tires are low. They're not really very low, so it's a bit touchy.
