As the title says, this is my second Subaru, and it probably won't be my last. It's versatile enough to accommodate my ever-changing needs. When it's my turn to carpool, it fits five people comfortably with plenty of headroom and legroom. Family member needs to pick up a new water heater and only has a car with a small trunk? No problem. Just fold down the back seats and in it goes. The stability control and AWD give me confidence traveling during Michigan's icy winters. It also gets good (though I don't believe best-in-class) gas mileage. If I try to nitpick, I can find minor qualms, but overall, I'm very pleased.
Story
Driving the Forester out to our campsite was fun. It was easily able to accommodate not only three people but also two (very spoiled!) dogs and everyone's gear without feeling cramped.
Pros
The materials in the base model aren't anything fancy, but the seats are comfortable, and the interior feels roomy. I wouldn't say it's flashy, but it's a good, practical vehicle. and as with its predecessor, maintenance costs have been low. I'm currently at 53k+ miles and issue-free so far. (Still even on the original tires!) I've been getting about 30 mpg (with more highway than city driving), which I'm pleased with for a vehicle in this class with AWD.
Cons
A lot of space is taken up with windows. This means fewer blind spots, but some people may not like the appearance or (worse) may feel like they're sitting in a fishbowl. Speaking of aesthetics, I wouldn't say there's anything particularly eye-grabbing or flashy about the design. In the base model, there's also quite a bit in the way of vinyl/plastic sorts of surfaces, which may be a put-off if you like more luxurious materials.
