I was drawn to the Subaru Forester because of its reviews. In person I noticed the Forester had a lot of room and options for the price. When I purchased my Forester I was living in northern Rhode Island so I needed a car that could deal with the harsh winter weather. At the time Subaru offered the New England package for the Forester. This included heated cloth seats, a heated section under the windshield wipers and heated mirrors. All of these features with the symmetrical all wheel drive made this car a solid choice. I was working for a waste water plant so I needed to be able to get to work, during super storm Nemo that dropped tons of snow on New England I was able to get to work and back home multiple times without much issue. I was one of the only people on the road and the Suba... (more)
Story
Driving in the massive snow storm that hit New England I was just tearing through snow, I almost felt like I was in one of the Subaru commercials.
Pros
The heated mirrors and windshield wipers are probably one of the biggest pluses. The symmetrical all wheel drive takes some getting used to when you're actually using it but it keeps you safe for sure. My absolute biggest pro is I was able to get a standard transmission. I love having absolute control of my cars so I always opt for a manual transmission and I was able to get a Subaru with all the frills I wanted and a 5 speed manual transmission. One of the other big pluses that my wife and daughter both love is the huge panoramic sun roof, I mean it's like 3/4's of the roof can open up wi... (more)
Cons
The only negative I think I really have with the Forester is the power. The four cylinder boxer engine can be snappy but it does take effort and again I think thanks to the fact I have a standard I'm able to manage this pretty well. A few other minor issues I have noticed while I've owned the vehicle are that it does have quite a bit of cabin noise, not terrible but definitely noticeable especially on a windy highway at higher speeds. The last is that the interior is a bit bland but it is suppose to be a family work horse more or less so I guess it's not a huge con.

I love my car; it has a lot of space, especially for the driver and passenger. I have many tall friends, and they enjoy that their heads don't hit the top and that they have plenty of leg room. My 2015 Subaru Forester has 55k miles on it and has been from coast to coast of the United States multiple times. I've taken it off-roading through the mountains and down thickly snowed trails. I'm only 5'2", and it is also perfect to sleep in if you fold down the back seats. It has a back-up camera, which is wonderful for those who aren't confident backing up and need assistance parallel parking. Subaru cars are also notoriously safe, so I have no worries about being harmed if I were ever in an accident. My Subaru has a tow hitch and has towed a small teardrop trailer for camping; it also has t... (more)
Story
I took my Subaru Forester on to the beach where I encountered no issues. We came across a family whose car got stuck in soft sand, and we gave them a tow out with a rope to my hitch. It was a fun little experience and made me glad to have a car I could trust.
Pros
There is a lot of room. Has a lot of options. All-wheel drive. Back-up camera. Good gas mileage (28 city/32 hwy). Has timing chain (not timing belt which needs replacing every 90k).
Cons
Stock tires need replacing at 40k miles. Interior is hard to get dog hair out of. Back seats don't fold down completely flat. If you crank your wheel too far to one side while parking, the steering wheel locks and you can't start your car until you 'unlock' it, which can be annoying.
