Subaru Outback Owner Ratings & Reviews

2016 Subaru Outback - First time Subaru owner to fan for life
We purchased our 2016 Subaru Outback immediately after moving to Wisconsin. After research, we decided that a Subaru would be one of the safest vehicles to have during the harsh winters. After looking at the Forester and Outback in person, we decided we liked the look and feel of the Outback better. We took it for a test drive and loved how smooth the ride was. Also, because it's more like a sedan, it gets great gas mileage but sits up a little higher like a small-sized SUV.
Story
We've been in Wisconsin almost two years now, and this last winter we had a pretty big ice storm. Because it's Wisconsin, school was still in session and on time. I went to back out our driveway and completely slide down into the street. Thankfully, it was early and our neighborhood is fairly quiet. We continued on our journey, and when I came back home, I tried once to make it up the driv... (more)
Pros
My person favorite feature is the back-up camera. I use it even when I've parked to make sure I'm within the lines of the stall. I also love the heated front seats for winter. One of the big reasons we got the Outback was for the space in back. The backseat is spacious as well as the cargo area. There are also built-in cross bars that we have used quite frequently, which are a great addition. Also, one of the most important reasons we got the Subaru, for the winter months, is the x-mode, which has saved us a couple of times in icy conditions.
Cons
I wish there was an option for a third row but it's not necessary. I also wish there was a GPS system that came with the car as we have been places without cell phone service. Other than that, I think we just should have chosen a better interior color. We chose a cream cloth interior, but with two kids, it get pretty dirty.
2014 Subaru Outback - Love, it's my second one.
Subaru is the best brand for the conditions I drive in. We are 20 miles from town, and it snows a lot where we live. The Subi will go through just about anything. It gets good gas mileage, and the AWD makes it just stick to the road. I feel very safe driving it, despite all the idiots out there. It's a very well-made car, and it was made in America at the zero-landfill plant in Indiana. It rides very comfortably for a small car, better than my old Forester and has somewhat more interior room. It just turned over 100,000 miles, and it still seems like a new car, except for the small hole I burned in the driver's seat.
Story
The DNR has made it very easy to tag a road-killed deer; you no longer have to call law enforcement. Yeah, I've been stared at by people who aren't used to seeing old ladies who look like librarians tossing dead deer into the back of her Subaru.
Pros
The safety factor for Subarus is very high. The hatchback makes it easy to load groceries, dog food, 50# feed bags, etc. We even fit a recliner chair in it! The fold down rear seats give you a lot of extra room if needed. The roof racks make it easy to attach our car top carrier. It has plenty of ports to plug electronic stuff into.
Cons
The things I don't like are me, not the car. I don't like the color (white), but that's what was available at the time. It's a 6-speed automatic, which is OK, but I like my good ol' manual transmission better. It doesn't have quite the nimble handling of the Forester, which is more like a sports-car. No ashtray, no cigarette lighter, but that's just me.
