While owning a 1991 Toyota Corolla might be a good purchase for some, individual customers should carefully weigh the pros and cons of owning one. If fancy bells and whistles are what get your attention, you’re better off looking for a newer vehicle. If gas mileage and reliability are primary concerns in your purchase for an automobile, it’s hard to top the Corolla’s reputation. It’s a car that will get you from point A to point B without breaking the bank. There’s nothing flashy; nothing about the car will immediately knock your socks off. The four-cylinder engine is dependable but lacks the power of bigger and stronger cars. The overall appearance of the vehicle is lackluster and not the kind of car a customer would write home about. It’s an ideal purchase for low income families, st... (more)
Story
I used to love to drive my Corolla on road trips to my home town. This was a six hour drive and my car always handled it like a pro.
Pros
While a simple car, my Toyota Corolla has been the most dependable vehicle I’ve ever owned. It doesn’t require much maintenance. When maintenance is required, the parts are usually inexpensive and easy for a do it yourselfer to replace. The price on this older car is great and the insurance doesn’t cost an arm and a leg either. The air conditioner runs cold and the engine is strong. In the winter, I am glad to have a heater that produces warm temperatures quickly to help thaw the car and the driver both. I love the peace of mind I experience when I’m driving my car. The Corolla is supremel... (more)
Cons
Being an older car, there are several cons associated with ownership. Many repairs need to be done in order to keep it performing well. These repair and maintenance visits can become costly as the vehicle ages further. While having a four-cylinder vehicle might be great for gas mileage, one really notices the lack of power when the car is on the interstate or a steep incline. Its appearance is a turn off for many customers with its boxy design. It lacks many of the luxuries and comforts of a modern vehicle. The electrical system is very rudimentary, lacking many of the features one needs o... (more)

I have had my 2006 used Toyota Corolla for eight years now and it has never caused me any serious worry of concern. The gas/mileage is pretty decent; I never feel that I spend too much at the pump. I have had the battery replaced twice, and once had maintenance performed that was part of a free, Toyota nationwide airbag recall. Other that that, I have never had any issues with the running of the car. It currently has over 150,00 miles, and I hope to get several more years out of it before I look at purchasing another vehicle. A neat memory I have of this car is when, a few years back, I inherited a huge rug from my grandparents. I was moving from the Midwest to the pacific northwest, and was able to roll up the rug, put it in the trunk with the back seat down, and drive nearly 3,00 mil... (more)
Story
One year I was watching Fourth of July fireworks with a date when it started raining. We opened up the trunk, put down the back seats, and sat in the trunk, covered by the raised trunk lid until the rain stopped.
Pros
This car has taken me across the country at least three times, not including other moderately long road trips I've taken with it. For a single person, living on a tight budget, this car is great at transporting what I need and doing so reliably.
Cons
The vehicle that I have is the base model: manual locks, hand-roll-down windows, CD player and radio only, plain upholstered interior. There is nothing flashy about the car, and at 12 years old, it is starting to show it's age. My biggest drawback with this car is actually a mere cosmetic issue, whether it was a combination of living in the humid south and then the icy mid-west, the paint on the roof began chipping off in large flakes about 4 years ago. I have repaired it myself with auto body paint, but it has begun to flake again recently. I plan on having to repaint it again soon.

The salesman was very attentive and made sure I got exactly what I wanted. The listing for the car I really wanted said it was manual and I left… then I got a call back saying the car was automatic, which was great. Went back and purchased the car.

Ray Brandt toyota is a great car dealership because the guy who was selling me my car didn't pressure me to hurry up and make a decision or get annoyed when i was in decisive between to cars. Anytime i need service the company is able to handle the service - new battery, new tire, new water pump and they are pretty much very nice.
