I bought it because, other than the great reviews, it handles very well. For me, at almost retirement age, the ease of getting in and out were superior. It is big enough that when two people are in the front, they have enough room and aren't "fighting" over the arm rest. Smaller SUVs are tight inside. With over 40,000 miles, I have had no major issues. Other than replacing the tires and brakes, no mechanical issues. Keep in mind, I have the oil changed on a regular basis and rotate the tires. Plenty of room in the back for luggage or a big shopping day! The instruments (dashboard) are easy to see. The cup holders are located where you can reach at a comfortable angle. There are two glove compartments which is good for me as always being organized. I can easily find what I need. The int... (more)
Story
Going on a long road trip with our dog in the back...in his own car seat, of course. Had plenty of room to reach back to give him a rub or treat.
Pros
Have had this car for a little over four years and other than normal maintenance, no problems. Good on gas and nice smooth ride. Plenty of leg room. I feel the value has held up and not depreciated as fast as other cars. Little things that matter to me like the paint is still shiny, not faded. I like the sense of pride which comes with this car. It is known as a practical car but with upgraded features. The side mirrors are easy to adjust from the front of the console. Unless you were a car geek, you would have no idea that this wasn't a newer car. I didn't find this out until after I bou... (more)
Cons
The later models have a different hatch that I like more than mine. Mine opens from left to right as the others open from the bottom. I wouldn't trade for that but will keep it in mind for the next purchase. I don't have many complaints with the car, as I have figured out how to overcome them. I had let the back seats down and could not figure out how to get them leaning at a slight angle. As I don't sit back there, I gave it no thought until some friends were sitting back there and mentioned it. While I shrugged it off with them, when I got home I got the manual out. You actually have to ... (more)

I liked the size of the vehicle. It is not as big as an SUV, but big enough for me to handle. I love the blue color and that it is 4 doors so that I can carry passengers. I have taken it on long trips and it is comfy if you are the passenger and it performs great. The back hatch opens outward and has lots of storage room. The rear seats fold down to maximize more storage room. It drives very smooth and gets great mileage. The seats have held up nicely after these 9 years with just a little wear and tear on them. The only things that I can say negative about the Rav4 is that it has had a lot of recalls. I do not like the fact that there has been lots of recalls. And for some reason the CD player has quit working.
Story
My vehicle has been to many places and one of the funniest was when I drove it up to the barn and a chicken jumped inside the window while I was feeding the baby chickens. Luckily it didn't poop in my seat.
Pros
My favorite features of my Rav4 is the color blue that it is, the massive leg room, the great trunk room and that it has four doors. It is a smooth riding vehicle. I also like that it gets great fuel mileage.
Cons
The most negative thing that I can say about my Rav4 is that since I have had it we have received over a dozen notices about recalls. There are a few recalls that need to be done on it now but the dealerships do not have the parts. It is very inconvenient to have to plan to take it in to be serviced when receiving a recall notice.

The salesperson was MOST helpful. My lease was coming to an end, and I was just going to get information on signing a new lease for a new car. I walked out of the place with a new car. She was persuasive, but made sure it was what I wanted. Offered me coffee, water, soda, etc. Very easy to deal with. Manager was the same way. I had a hit and run on the front bumper and was concerned about that since it was a leased vehicle. He said no problem, it was only a "skin" and it could be easily repaired. The salesperson knew me over a year later when I was sitting waiting for oil change on the vehicle. She walked right over to me and greeted me with my full name!
