The Tundra gets great mileage for a truck -- we've seen ~25 mpg on the highway. It's reliable, partially because it uses older technology (our windows are rolled up by hand). We've done regular maintenance on the truck, and beyond that, we've had no issues with the motor or other components. It's also a nice size. Big enough to carry a large load -- we've used it to transport construction materials -- and pull some campers but not a huge gas guzzler. It also feels safer than very large vehicles, which can have bad visibility and feel too wide for many roads. It has a good safety record. The 4WD is reliable. We live in snow country and use it all winter. It's a very practical car to have in the mountains. For us it's irreplaceable. It's 18 years old and, therefore, has a low blue book, ... (more)
Story
We took it to a campground in the Hope Valley and stayed overnight. We added a shelf in the back and bought a very comfy futon. We had all our gear under the shelf (and our dog) and slept on top. We had a nice dinner at a nearby restaurant, which we felt good about splurging on since we saved $200 by not staying at the lodge.
Pros
Gas mileage, price, not too big, safe, and good Consumer Reports review.
Cons
Seat comfort

Love this truck. It took a little getting used to the size, given that our last truck was a Tacoma, but once we did it has been a smooth, great ride. Love the way it handles, the turn radius is amazing for a big truck. We got the 4x4 CrewMax. It is so very spacious on the inside, which is working out wonderfully for us (we have two young kids with large bulky car seats). I wish it got better gas mileage but I knew going into it that gas would be expensive, so clearly that didn't a deter us. The one and only con I can say at this point is that the truck has some issues with the radio. It will go in and out randomly. Haven't been able to find a reason for the problem, and have read about this problem more widespread, so I don't think there is anything that can be done. This does kind of ... (more)

They were able to find a Prius when it was really hard to find one during cash clunkers. Although they told us that the car came with this weird paint that would cost extra, after I found out that that was a lie, they didn't put it on so we didn't have to pay extra. However, the decal that they told us about was still there.
