How I got screwed by VW
The MKVI Golf has a great chassis and suspension. The car handles like a small race car. Corners well and frankly, its a blast to drive. If you are a driving enthusiast I would recommend this car a good solution for a daily driver. The Turbo Diesel model of this car offers a tremendous amount of torque and is very quick. However, be prepared to spend money in upkeep. The car burns tires off and its geometry is difficult to maintain. Finicky systems like tpms and the stereo will plague this car. Then of course there is the whole thing about being completely and utterly lied to by VW about the whole clean diesel aspect. Personally, I'm pissed. I enjoyed the little halo over the car as I blasted down back roads reminding myself its ok to drive like a wildman because my engine is tuned to have a lower carbon footprint than most vehicles. Then surprise... VW lied about all that. Grrrrr.....

Lemons Abound
I own a 2000 Volkswagen Golf GLS, I have to say I actively hated this car shortly after I purchased it. It worked very well for the first three years, then it began falling apart even with routine maintenance. The interior easily falls apart because it's cheaply made. The plastic inside has begun to get sticky and fall apart. The other part I hate is that I had to put 500 dollars into it for electrical issues because the motor wasn't starting when it was under 30 degrees Fahrenheit. However, there are a few pros to the car. It's extremely cheap on gas. It will take a beating. I took this car across country, and I stayed comfortable the entire trip. Overall, it's an expensive car to keep for its age.
