I purchased the car brand new in 2009. The car looks nice and has been reliable. I now have 122,000 miles on the car and it still feels solid. I have actually be in 2 accidents with the car. Both times no one was hurt but major repairs needed to occur. I feel like the car was very safe in both accidents.

Excellent and reliable vehicle
I bought this car eight years ago and it has been very reliable and fun vehicle. I haven't had to repair anything other than routine type of maintenance such as replacing lights, tires, battery, oil change etc. I also had to replace the windshield, but this was covered by the warranty so all it cost me was time. Also, the CD player jammed and doesn't work anymore, but that's not a huge big problem because the radio still works well. I also enjoy driving it a lot still. It isn't that fast, but it corners really well and is pretty unbeatable in bad weather. Once I drove over 100 miles in "Texas blizzard" conditions without a problem. I would say probably the biggest disadvantage is the gas mileage isn't great. They claim that it gets 22/29, and this is probably pretty accurate, which isn't very good mileage for a fairly small car with a non-turbo 2.5 Liter 173 horsepower engine. I would also say the car is comfortable and everything is going well with the car eight years later.

Almost perfect
When I first bought this car, I felt as if I had just won the lottery. It was an affordable, compact sedan that served all of my needs perfectly. It is spacious enough for even a larger guy like myself, while still providing enough room for passengers and cargo in the trunk. When I drive on the freeway, I can expect 33 mpg while traveling at a comfortable pace. The ride is smoother than anything else I have driven. I have now owned my Subaru for nearly three years, and I can speak about its flaws, and how this is not the dream vehicle I thought it was. First, the power is mediocre. When I bought the car, I was surprised with how much "pep" it had, but beyond the pep, you will struggle to get up any steep mountain roads without burying your foot in the throttle. One of the other flaws of this vehicle is the overall cost of ownership. I initially bought this car because Subaru is known for a reliable, fun car. In the three years I have driven it, I have replaced two struts, two wheel bearings, brake pads, rotors, and all of the usual maintenance. So the cost to own this car, is not ideal for someone on a tight budget. Also, the road noise gets on your nerves if you plan on taking a long road trip. Nearly a constant humming, likely the result of cheap interior build quality. Overall, I recommend the car, but do not mistake it for a dream machine. Instead, consider it an average car with a few quirks. For the money though, it cannot be beaten.
